VAT Reg in relation to whoelsalers

If I set myself up as a sole trader but annual turnover is less than VAT threashold can i still make purchases from wholesalers? (all the wholesalers i've come into contact with ask for a VAT reg number. Anyone know? Cheers

Hello there,

I am going to try (in the nearby future) to get a membership card at a well known wholesaler. I am a sole trader, my turnover also less than the VAT threshold. As soon as I am done, I will come back to you.

Or you can call them yourself :-)
