    Great comp..Great day out...

a few questions...is it totally necessary for competitors to be called straight back on the mat after completing a match?Maybe it is...i dont know.

Also if u r involved in a draw that goes to the takedown rule, i believe that a clean takedown would be far fairer to the competitors...i.e what happend in the absolute when one competitor was reversed after an attempted takedown and it was flagged as a win for his competitor in what was clearly a reversal...

this is not a post to 'nit pick'...just an attempt to provide questions and suggestions that will hopefully add to an already excellent competition...:D

Unfortunately by the nature of a round robin format, it's impossible to eliminate people habing two matches in a row. When you factor in pull outs etc it can make things worse.

I know there were one or two guys who really seemed to get the short straw and get no rest, but that, unfortunately is the luck of the draw. It can be frustrating, especially for beginners, when they know they can do better, but their body won't respond, but ultimately, the alternative is going to a knockout style, where people could travel all day for just one match.

I completely agree with Clive but I feel the 1 minute rule was harsh, especially when you're coming off a really tough fight with an even more physical opponent awaiting you who is fresh. In judo circles I'm told you're entitled to a minimum of 5 mins between bouts (the duration of a match). I'm not sure what the procedure is in highschool/college wrestling.

The only alternative I can propose is running two weight classes on the same mat together.

I too agree with what u r saying clive and appreciate that but it does put some people at a serious disadvantage when having to fight again after a gruelling match and as posted by Nothingcompares...a time frame of 5 minutes rest would be much better, in the sense that, competitors could gather themselves, recouperate and get back onto the mat in a recovered state.

I totally understand about time restrictions etc and sympathise completely but unless everyone in the weight class experiences this '1 minute rest period' then it becomes unfair. Essentially could lead to the individual placing lower due to having 2 matches in quick succession (and not being able to produce their best form) where as his/her opponents do not and they get the chance to compete fresh...

Again, i reiterate...this post is not to cause problems or take away from the day...just an attempt add to an already excellent competition.

you arent always entitled to 5minutes break in judo, you are entitled to rest for the period of time you were fighting for, if the fight last 2minutes 37seconds, thats how long you have to rest before hauling yourself back on the mat, i like the whole little break thing, shows what people are made of, people dont just use there strength, technique, heart and will to win kick in at this point.

Suck it up Marty will ya!

I like the whole cardio intensive focus of the NSC to be honest, but running two divisions would remove the need for consecutive match ups, if Colm thought it was worth doing. The attitude to the event in some gyms is that its a bit of a run out to iron out your ground and in that case having a disadvantage against an opponent is not a big deal. If someone is taking the NSC seriously however, and I think this is where you are coming from Marty, then it is definitely a factor you want eliminated - why should your opponent have any advantage over you?

It can be difficult enough to run one group let alone two consecutively.

I do sympathise with those ppl who had to compete twice with only a minutes break, but their are time constraints for the evert. Although its not ideal, its defnitely better to have two fights back to back then to lose one fight and get knocked out.

Thats the sport you compete in. The mats could get slippy, the guys rash guard could be an advantage or disadvantage, you might have to travel further, etc. It's never a level playing field. What is consistent about guys who win is that they have ways of levelling the field, usually by having trained harder for longer months or years before the comp.

    Peace
