    Hi,

    I've been thinking of getting into a martial art for a while, but because of money and time issues, I've only been seriously considering it recently.

    Does any one have any recomendations for a good all-round style? Also, does anyone know any clubs in the bray area (north wicklow, south dublin)?

    Warriors Muay Thai gym is in Bray :) If you're not familiar with the sport check it out on youtube. It's regarded as probably the most effective stand up fighting style there is and the fact that there's a competitive aspect to it means a big focus on strength and fitness. It's a good place to start out training although practically all gyms in all fight styles make a big effort to make beginners feel welcome and to go at your pace. Give it a look anyway.

    Now remember a while ago I wanted recommendations to be fleshed out a bit. Flesh this out please. What does it tell the OP? Very little, and he's new to martial arts. same goes for future postings on this thread.

    Right indeed. NG Ireland is a MMA club with an emphasis on grappling (BJJ). MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts and combines striking, wrestling and grappling. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting with the goal of gaining a dominant position and using joint-locks and chokeholds to force an opponent to submit.

    Having said that, don't take my word for it, go up to warriors and NGand give them a try and see if you enjoy them. Dave jones coach from NG uses this forum too so you'll get a better overview from himself.

    The lads train there monday-thursday info is on the website, it has a very cool competitive and focused atmosphere but at the same time being friendly and easy going. New people start all the time.

    www.bujinkan.ie for general info on the dozen or so clubs in the greater Dublin area. PM me if you want a recomendation further to that.

    The Bujinkan is a modern martial art dealing with all ranges and all weapons, multiples and emty handed. Good for self-defence too after long-time study. It's based on 9 classical Japanese martial arts schools which have adapted to contempory needs through the decades of their use.
