That's nasty and very unlucky, you see lot of people do the same thing but come out injury free.

What was the injury, a break or a dislocated elbow?

Ohh..that brought back painful memories.

Virtually the exact same scenario for me a few years ago in a jiu jitsu class..grappling on the ground, foolishly put out my arm as per the video and got it caught between the mats.
The other guy didn't realise and was pushing down on top of me..snap! dislocated elbow. Couldn't feel my arm from the elbow down, freaked me out..and the pain!
