Which is the best airport for the Rockey Mountains?

Hi I am going with a friend to the us who wants to go drive around the rocky mountians which is the best airport or area to go to to vist the rockies. We will be 3 days in the rockies any ideas? Is Salt Lake City good for them or Denver?

denver is 70 miles south-east of rocky mountain national park

the Sawatch Range which has half of the highest mountains in the Rockies including Mount Elbert (2nd tallest mountain in the main 48 states) is about 100 miles west of Denver

Yeah, I would have said Denver too. I flew in there a few years ago and drove up to Aspen, Vail, Keystone and Breckenridge. It's not too far a car journey so you'd be well placed in Denver to get to the Rockies.

Be warned, my family all got altitude sickness on that trip because it's so high up. Main symptoms were thirst, tiredness and a lack of appetite. Just in case you start to feel a bit dodgy when you're there, keep it in mind!

fly to Calgary - only an hour drive from the Rockies and drive right through the Rockies to Vancouver. Fab experience

you could also fly to jackson hole, wyoming and that airport is in the middle of the rocky mountains (grand teton national park), no need to drive at all

yellowstone national park is only up the road too

1. Salt lake city for Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons.
2. Jackson hole?! I've been there - it's a small town and an even smaller airport! Airfield more like it.
3. Vancouver and Calgary for the Canadian rockies.

jackson hole airport has 45-50 flights a day, thats far more than some irish airports

i did the drive between salt lake and jackson wyoming in June 2005; its a good 5-6 hours straight shot, a bit too far imo.
