Buying Irish Rail tickets

    am going to westport this weekend...can anybody tell me if it cheaper to buy irishrail tickets on the internet compared to getting them at the train station!

    I've bought Dublin-Kilkenny and Dublin-Waterford for the same price online as I could have done in the station.

    EDIT: Though have you seen their site at all ?

    ONLINE FARE SALE AS FULL SERVICES RESTORED ALL FARES, ALL TRAINS, HALF PRICE by Corporate Communications

    Iarnród Éireann has announced an online fares sale across the Intercity network, to mark the restoration of full services to and from Cork and Kerry.

    Customers can take advantage of half-price fares across the following routes, with one-way fares on sale for:

    - Dublin-Cork: €16.50

    - Dublin-Kerry: €16.50

    - Dublin-Limerick: €13:50

    - Dublin-Galway: €12

    - Dublin-Westport/Ballina: €12

    - Dublin-Waterford: €8

    This offer is available for tickets booked from now until midday on Tuesday 3rd June for bookings more than a week in advance.

    Not helpful for the OP, booking must be a week in advance as per your quote.

    Bit late now, but if you're travelling again, bring a passport sized photo and buy a Weekender card for 7 euro, you can then buy a Weekender ticket at a greatly reduced rate (seems to be student rate or thereabouts), valid outbound Fri-Sun and returning on or before the Tuesday. You'll make the 7 euro back on just one trip, and the card is valid for a year. You can usually just get the card from the ticket desk (in Connolly and Heuston anyway, not sure about smaller stations).
