    Hi JVB,

Excellent advice as per usual. I was hoping to pass this advice onto my friend and colleague but unfortunately, he received his result today, a week ahead of schedule, but didn't pass. Best of luck next time mate!

I just ask about the grammar as some mistakes are quite noticable on here sometimes! Im sure i have done some too! Maybe it's a different story when we are writing!? Less chance for typing errors! Stote and JVB, can you confirm that the role play in C13 was only 2 minutes!? It probably seems like forever when you are doing it but it does seem very short. Are there any other differences to C14 apart from the removal of the car reg test etc which I have no experience of. This might seem like a silly question but do the PSNI have motorcycles for patrol etc? Im not from Northern Ireland so forgive me!

yep the PSNI have motorbikes and ordinary bikes.
Role plays are 5mins timed from when you walk through the door
i think you had 2mins to answer each question in the situational interview which comes after the role plays.
and the removal of the car reg test is the only difference in the IST

    ;)

    Hi all,
New to this forum, but just wondering if anyone had info on time-lines. I passed my medical on April 17th. When should I expect to hear from them with a final decision, or is their a chance I won't hear anything at all? Is it common for people to pass everything up to the medical and still not make it?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I filled in the vetting form in November, completed my medical in mid-December and still got the "Dear John" letter (January). I know I passed the medical, but have still not heard back about the vetting (no skeletons in the closet that I'm aware of though). I'm just asuming that I was one of the lowest scorers in the A/C to get put through for the vetting/medical and got cut when it became clear that the 300 or so people in front of me wouldn't drop out.

The PSNI are taking in about 440 recruits for campaign 13. They obviously put more than that through the vetting/medical, so going through these processes is no guarantee of being put through for training.

There is no real time limit for how long it will take for the PSNI to get back to you, but they will contact you one way or the other.

As long as you haven't been told otherwise, you're still in with a chance.

    Good luck pal.

what are the hours like in the psni? i gather it used to be a 12 hour shift pattern four days on four days off, has this now change?

manaka. No, 5 minutes. You are allowed up to 5 minutes during each of the role plays at the AC.

    Hi Steven

Yes indeed the shift patterns used to be 12 hours /4 days on 4 days off.
Since this pattern, they have now been changed Twice. The new shifts I am hearing benefit police officers to an extra 52 / 56 days off throughout the year which can only be a good thing due to the immense pressures and hours of the job.
I am not exactly sure if this information is accurate but is what i heard from a Police Officer friend of mine.
    Possibly PSNI can help ?

When I last did it a couple of years ago it was 2 mins a roleplay but apparently it has changed. Yes they do have motor bikes, but not in the more 'dangerous' areas for obvious reasons

OH I failed again, 2nd time. Got 50, just found out. :(
I'm gutted but who know maybe its for the best? I can try again/maybe its just not to be? I wonder do they (Consensia) employ 'negative marking' in that test? I guessed the last 10 questions in the test! I wonder do they deduct marks for wrong answers? anyone have any idea??

Very best of luck to all who got through.

the very nice lady in vettin informed me that the next intake is 3 august..
they will start telling people in or around middle of june(6 weeks previous to start date)...
so heres crossing that me and everyone else waiting on here gets a letter of invitation...
    good luck all fellow 13r's..
and stick with it 14rs, there is a finish line(even if ya cant see it)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 160 ✭✭manaka

thanks stote and jvb, 5 mins now it is then.
Hey pedro how long did your vettin take to get back from the guards? Will it take long for the psni to go through it then? Ive been vetted by guards twice. No worms in the woodwork!
So about the hours of work after the 20weeks training, is it straight into the 12 hour shifts? What is the average hours in a week? I hear that a LOT of overtime time is expected!?

    Hi All,
Just wondering if I have any chance at all with a merit no in the mid 800's as an RC applicant. Rang today and was disappointed to know I was so far down the list. Anyone know of a person who got in with a score like that?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 60 ✭✭doug-26

    Hey all,
Haven't been on in a while. Actually, that's a lie, I check this every day but I haven't posted in ages :D I'm still waiting for my IST results too - today will be day 13 of the 20-working-day timeframe. Starting to get nervous when post is delivered now! lol.
Some sound advice being posted up there too, thank you to those who posted it! Hopefully by acting like a sponge now it'll help me when (if!) I get to the assesment centre :D
    Hope you're all well,
    Doug.

    Same position as myself there.

There was a guy off here who had a merit no of 750 ish and started training in March. So there is bound to be hope for you as well.

    Passed my IST!!!!!!!!:D:eek:

Heard yesterday, AC isn't until 11/07 though which feels like along wait but atleast I'll have moved home by then so won't have to worry about flights.

Does anyone know if there is more than one AC, as I think they have given me one which is more convenient to where I live at the moment. Thought maybe I could get it changed to a more central one.

For all those who didn't get the IST completly finished and are still waiting for results there is still a chance.

I finished 40 in the 1st and 23 in the 2nd. That was my main worry.

I passed my IST horrrrrrah just...so heres a dilema

I came home today and ive just been offered a training place with Strathclyde Police. Starting August.

Now im really confused, Scots Police was just a backup in case....but there training facility is top rate, so is training. So is the force...

I can come home via easy jet..so im not worried about the relocation process, plus i dont have any comitmnets here.

This is a spanner in the works..a nice one but a spanner none the less.

    What you think...

    Firstly Congratulations on everything.

This reply is a bit late as I've been visiting N.I, the weather is cracking at the minute, makes me want to be home even more.

I just wanted to give you abit of advise from personnal experience. I've mentioned this before on the forum, but incase you haven't read it, I'm born and bred in N.I. For the last two years Ive been working in the Metropolitan Police and am now trying to get in to PSNI as we're moving home.
I reckon if you have no commitments at home, if your young and if you have in an interest in living in Scotland I'd go for it. I think the Met is the best thing I've done in my live ( apart from marrying my wife!!:D) and the experience is invaluable. The diversity on the mainland is totally different to N.I, but I can see that in maybe 5-10 years N.I will have caught (i.e bigger population of different religions, races etc.)
Someone mentioned that the crime is different, I'm sorrying but crime is crime in my opinion, a domestic is the same no matter where you are, theft is the same, and riots are the same. Just the motivation is sometimes different. (granted some law is different in Scotland)

Weigh up your options mate, if you choose to go make sure you stay for atleast 2 yrs otherwise your experience is wasted.

P.S I heard from an Inspector in PSNI HR that in time the transfer rule will change, so that could be an option.

Essay over, looks like I'm practising for the written part of the AC!!!!:D

    hey manaka,
sent my vetting forms off at the very start of jan and they only recieved them back from guards yesterday, i know of at least one other person in the same boat, also if im correct PSNI himself was waiting for the best part of a year.. could be wrong though!!
best thing to do... try put it out of your mind and not be worrying bout it all day every day...
take it your from the south aswell??

Both depend entirely on which DCU you get. It varies from place to place.
