If you can move to any country...

I was just wondering about what is the best place to live on Earth..

I read that government of Dubai gives every mature man an apartment for free! Just like that, for better start! And also the medicines are for free there.. And you don't have to pay any bills, government do that for you in Dubai!!! Sounds like paradise isn't it?? :)

In Bahrain for example there's no taxes at all!! All money comes from oil.. That's what my friends from there told me! And government is giving you a check every month just like that! They are that rich to share government's money with the citizens every month!!

So I wonder you to answer,

If you can move to any country now where would you go? And why there?

That's me and the rest of the lads in BGRH ruled out. :(

Would have said South Africa, love it there, but it's getting a bit dodgier there lately, so it would probably be Spain, specifically Barcelona.

I pretty much think the UK and Ireland are the best countries to be in.
    England is fine for me.

The Netherlands or Finland. Both are fantastic countries with great people. I'd have to learn the language first though.

Australia, no question. They have a great lifestyle there.

A couple of years ago I would have said South Africa . Again, great lifestyle (if you're white) but getting too dangerous.
Would also have said Israel. Fascinating country and I have a great empathy with the Israelis, but the economy is struggling these days.

I see Japan has got a couple of mentions. My mrs is from there. Grand place to visit, but just too damn different for me to contemplate living there.

I love Perth and it would be my number one, but seeing as I'm already living here I'll go for Chicago. Fantastic city.

England or Scotland. I don't have a pathological obsession with the sun, wouldn't fancy a language barrier, love the sense of humour and SO many aspects of British culture, and it's the furthest I'd want to be from home.

Off ya go then... Only thing is, you may experience days without food, but I suppose life can't be perfect!

Oh and you'd have to think twice about putting "God" in a sentence.

well according to the sources we be:

the freest country in the world when you leave out cities like HK and singapore http://www.heritage.org/research/features/index/countries.cfm

we had the highest quality of life in 2005 (the last time this report was published) http://www.economist.com/media/pdf/QUALITY_OF_LIFE.pdf

and 5th highest in Human development index which measures life expectancy, literacy, educational attainment, and GDP per capita http://hdr.undp.org/en/statistics/

i certainly would not move to a country where my freedom would be alot less than Ireland so that rules out UAE and cuba for sure, those places might be nice for a holiday but living long term, from what i hear its against the law to shout across the street at someone in dubai :(

Canada would too cold in winter, even cities in the south like toronto are stupidly cold compared to here in December and January, i was in Chicago in January of 2007 and nearly froze to death when it hit -18C with a wind chill factor making it feel -23C and this in the middle of the day; ditto Finland where i visited in February

    What she said!

OP, why in gods name would you want to move to Dubai? (apart from the Indoor skiing, and camel racing ofcourse)

Its unbearbly hot - not the good hot, the bad hot.

Alcohol is only served in hotels.

If you get caught with a 0.0000000000001g of drugs your basically thrown away.

You'd be surprised. I live in Bahrain (little Dubai) and its got a lovely relaxed atmosphere out here.

It has its problems, mainly lunatic drivers but you adjust fast.

Plus alcohol isn't just sold in 5* Hotels (legally it should) but theres 3 off licenses (Legal) and a host of seedy back street bars that open 24/7 if you know where to look (Illegal).

Unsure if i'd move here for good though. Its starting to warm up now, I had to stand outside the car for a few minutes this morning with the AC on to let the wheel cool enough to touch.

Possibly Italy would be my choice. I love the place, the people and the food.
