If anyone's ever going to one,I'd like to remind you, that tipping is customary. can get so frustrating.
Tips are for when a member of staff provides good/exemplary service. If you don't do your job well, you don't deserve a tip. The fact that you "get frustrated" would indicate that customers find your service below par (and therefore aren't tipping), maybe you should consider changing your attitude and working a bit harder to actually earn the tip?

This isn't the USA, if you want customers to be expected to tip, go there and work for a much lower basic wage and get your demanded tips.

My service isn't below par in any way, I work my ass off; it's not like i'm working in a conventional restaurant and not getting tips, for that I'd understand that my service wasn't up to scratch, but we treat the people amazingly well, and wait on them hand and foot for on average 8 hours, and the majority of them leave without saying thank you.

Becuase they're not in a restaurant where they pay, they feel like if they can get away with being stingy they may as well.

There are several people I work with who have to work two jobs,6 days a week, and the days when they don't get tips is a massive blow to them. And no matter what you might think or perceive,I have no doubt in my mind that the sevice we provide is exemplary, and we do it with a smile on our face.

You get paid a wage to do the job. If that wage isn't enough then go look for another one.

People in here are so contrary...

Not saying that we don't get a wage,I'm just saying; the majority of waiters do get tips; that's a fact. It's what happens when one is a waiter.
If people have been waiters that don't get tips they'll understand that it's frustrating when you feel like you haven't done anything wrong, and yet you don't get a tip.
I'm just saying,it can be highly frustrating.

God.I am spending too much time on boards since I finished my exams. This is about my hundredth post in a couple of days!

To Zuchum:I work as a barman in a pub.I get paid a standard wage.Occasionally,I get a tip. However,I do not expect to get tipped as I am getting a standard decent wage.I never expect to get tipped even if I do a lock in till 4AM etc.

My day job is a waiter in Subiaco in Perth....I'm living here for a while

I applied to over 70 jobs and the only one that bothered calling me up was a waitering job.

Its a fancy restaurant, we often have famous Rugby and Aussie Rules players and the owners of the teams and stuff and I hate it. The pay is ok, the tips aren't great, maybe $80 a week, about €45-50 a week, a friend of mine gets €50 a day in her job as a waitress in dublin in tips.

I hate the customers and some of the chefs. Some of the chefs gave out to me for talking to another waitress while we were waiting for food to be cooked. Some of the customers barely acknowledge me let alone say thank you. Luckily my name tag gets people talking, my name is Oisín and people always try pronounce it and guess where I'm from...most of them pronounce it like its French and guess that I'm dutch.

I would have quit by now but no other jobs I applied for have contacted me, well, maybe 5 did, I told a lie, but as soon as they looked at my working visa they said they weren't interested. My working visa lets me keep a job for maximum 6 months at a time, and all these places won't employ anyone with a working visa.

I feel better after saying that...

Yeah, so it seems, I prefer drinking in the cheap places though!

The weird part about some of the managers there is they drink there, I think thats weird, they go to where they work on their days off.

If you're ever in the restaurant and see a disgrunted looking guy called Oisín...thats me buddy!
