What did everyone think of Wayne Rooney skipping away in delight when the shoot-out was won? I thought it was great.

Question for all the United fans - should Van De Sar be replaced?

I have an Italian friend who's a Juve supporter and he told me from the get go that he's a good shot stopper but makes too many mistakes and that basically he's not good enough for United. That's why Juve got rid of him years ago.

I know he saved a penalty last night but penalties are a bit of a lottery - he slipped a few times at important moments such as for the goal. Also, Barca cruelly exposed him in the semis and basically had a fool proof system for getting possession of the ball back - hound the defenders till they pass it back to VDS. This ended up with Fergie telling Vidic not to pass it back to him anymore.

So, do you think he'll go, will Fergie replace him?

I'm amazed that he didn't cost you something with all the mistakes he made in the semi and the final. I'd think the quality of the defence in front of him saved him to be honest.

What a fantastic night & result. I had an almighty hangover today but i didnt care because i just lazed in front the TV all day watching SSN :). I was reading about people saying how they feel for JT and what a role model is he. I don’t feel sorry himself after what he did with Tevez and it was funny to see the Chelsea players arguing as usual, every time a decision didn’t go Chelsea’s way there was at least 4/5 players surrounding the ref which was a disgrace. I saw picture today when Makelele and Scholes clashed, all the players pushing and there was Ronney pushing A. Cole to the ground (how i hate that mercenary).

I think it was obvious what Manu are missing and that is a midfielder who will dominate, we really missed that last night and I really don’t think Carrick is going to improve; I thought he was quite poor to be honest. Michael Essien would be a great signing :D , but even as i post this i can't think of any world class midfielders in europe that we may be able to sign?

I think VDS is a quality keeper, is very consisent and doesn't make too many mistakes, cmon he slipped for the goal last night, nothing to complain about for me anyways.
We already have his replacement waiting in the wings anyways, a certain Ben Foster :)

I think VDS play one more season and retire next after that. I always thought we should have signed him before Fulham did.

I reckon if Foster had been fit this season he would have been givent he chance to replace him - heard a lot of stories around the begining of this season and the end of last that Foster was going to be given the chance as No. 1 - but his injury ruined that.

I said last season, and this season (and comments on the previous page of this thread) that van der Sar has been shaky at times this season, but has pulled off some great saves when he was called upon (save from Rio last night)

It is a tough one to call for me. There is something about van der Sar that i don't trust - he doesn't fill me with confidence. Even with the penalties last night, I didn't think he extended himself well enough - got hands to two of the penalties but didn't save them.

It will be interesting to see what happens this coming season, with Foster back from injury. There was talk that van der Sar was offered the goalkeeper's coaching position, but he turned it down - which would indicate the club feel it is time to move him on, while he clearly doesn't.

Barca practically humiliated him in the semis. Get it on his left foot - throw in for us. He gave away possession far too many times in those games.

Seriously, in a champions league semi-final for a manager to tell his defenders to stop passing it back to the keeper when they're under pressure. Not up to that level IMO.

I think Fergie will replace him.

I actually think Hargreaves and Anderson could, and will, develop into an awesome, dominating, midfield pairing - the could be brilliant together.

With the Super Cup now on the horizon (i presume it is), are united going to abandon the FA Cup as they did the previous time they won the CL?

    Super Cup is in August.

You're thinking of the World Club Cup (being held in either Japan or Australia i think).

Hopefully we won't abandon the FA Cup again, i was bitterly disappointed the first time round. It will be interesting to see how United handle it though - but then we managed to fit in a friendly in Saudi Arabia this season, so surely we can fit in an extra game this coming season without too much trouble. Might mean weakened sides in the FA Cup AND the WCC though.

The last tiem wasnt because of the Super Cup or the Club World Championships in japan (which im lookin into going to!!:D)

It was to do with the tournament in Brazil that they played in, the one where the players all gassed out after about 60 mins, Becks got sent off and the lads took a beach holiday!!

Wrong competiton and Incorrect. United were asked by the English FA to withdraw from the FA Cup and go to the World Club championships in Brazil of all places because they(The English FA) thought it would help their chances of winning the bidding to host the 2006 WC.

It was the World Club Championship in Brazil

Is the World club championship still open exclusively to the european champions then and will united play i wonders ?

I was really disappointed that Park Ji Sung was not on the bench last night. I thought he one are best players in the last couple of months and in the semi-final against Barca at old trafford.

I'd say Gary Neville is gutted missing out on a Premier League and Champions League medal.

United will play in it December in Japan and will play 2 games a semi final and a final or 3/4th place playoff.

I disagree with this. He is a good shot stopper but his skills extend into great reaction saves (specifically from certain-OG situations with Rio of late) and his distribution from the hands is accurate and powerful. He's also very brave and will dive in feet and head first no matter what the situation. Combine that with the fact he's about 9ft 7inches tall and more than capable at set peices I think he's proven himself as a top keeper.

He's had one or two dodgy moments this season - including bizarre collisions with defenders and lack of calling and yes his left peg is as useless as Riise's right but overall I think he deserves a lot of credit for the low number of goals conceeded this year.

Watching the Barcelona game, i'd say we should probably look for a replacement keeper, someone who can KICK the ball properly...his kicking was absolutely terrible in that match.

Having said that, Ferguson watches him every day. If he needs to be replaced, Ferguson will be the first to do it. Sure I strongly expect Foster to make something of himself this season...I reckon he will start to be honest the first game next season.

Agreed he was kicking like he was wearing roller skates, one explanation would be he had a groin strain.

Top keeper, 38 this year thou so a replacement is inevitable.

at 38 he's still an above average keeper to put it mildly. he'll need replacing soon, but even then he can still offer the squad a lot. he's the most experienced player they have, and judging on the final one of the more calming influences on the squad. I'd say next season VDS will still probably be the number one, but Fergy will start rotating quite frequently with Foster.

I have to say though the blooding in of the replacement has to begin this season, i'm pretty sure the VDS of 5 or 6 years ago would have saved Ashley Coles penalty. he is beginning to noticeably slow down.

Well to be fair, I don't know about that...his reflexes looked pretty damn good to me when he saved Ferdinands header...lightning reflex.

The weather was poor and he was slipping a fair bit.

I heard Daily mail was writing for Vidic as he is croat???
And as someone said after saying he dont need Ronaldo Schuster is now saying Ronaldo will finish in Madrid sooner or later....this is boring

Yeah, time to put this season to bed and start planning next year. hopefully there will be a few new names arrive in the Summer. 3 titles in a row would be a great achievement considering how things looked after 2 in a row from Chelsea.
