I rang up Chorus yesterday to cancel sky sports as the footie season has now ended. They said that there was a €10euro fee for removing it from my service. I can't recall ever being notified of this cancellation fee when I signed up fro the sports package(which was added to an existing subscription over the phone). Are they within there rights to charge this fee as far as I am concerned I wasn't given prior notice of it? Has any one else on boards challenged them on this before?

it does seem a ridiculous charge but i guess there are a lot of people out there who do what you do at the end of each premiership season (most of my mates do it).

you could always claim you were not notified either written or verbally over the phone and you are considering cancelling your sub if they are not going to waive the charge. not sure sure far that will get you.

i checked out their website and i could not find any mention of the €10 (whether i was logged in or not logged in).

to be honest i am not sure whether they are entitled to apply this charge or not.

Yes, I think I'll wait for my bill to come and then dispute the charge. Are chorus/upc under any obligation to publish their price list similar to the way eircom would be for communications?

Has anyone else been charged this fee when cancelling?

Also would there be a similar fee if the movie subscription was being cancelled?

There was a thread about this not too long ago. General consensus was UPC are allowed to do this.

Drop them an e-mail (for the attention of Customer Loyalty) and explain that you will be closing your UPC account and getting a Sky dish if this charge isn't dropped and that you are disappointed etc etc.

Don't be too nasty, just make your point.

They can be reached at :
    customer(dot)support@upc(dot)ie

Please insert . where (dot) is written. I am just trying to avoid publishing their email address online as I don't want to have it harvested and flooded with spam.

Make sure to include your UPC (Chorus/NTL) account number.
