    That poles reversing thing is such bollocks, doesnt that process take hundreds of years? Jeez, I bet there's hundreds of different dates of the predicted end of the world, everyone's just hopping on this one the way everyone has hopped on the whole 23.11 thing, its all in your fecking brains.

    You're gonna feel sooo silly when I drag this thread up in 5 years time.

    Isn't this machine just a particle accelerator? Like the ones that are used in scientific labs every day, but bigger?

    I don't think theres any link between 2012 and Cern. But there's loads of very interesting stuff out there not only on the speculation on what might happen but also on what will happen on that date ie the galactic alignment which forms the basis of the Mayan calender in brief :--

    Our galaxy has a centre which all the stars take millions of years to revolve around, and it is located in the starriest part of the Milky Way, as seen from Earth. On four occasions within the 25,800-year cycle our galactic centre aligns with the sunrise of a solstice or equinox. The last time it occurred was on a fall equinox 6,450 years ago, approximately the dawn of Old World civilisations. On Dec 21, 2012, which is a winter solstice (Northern Hemisphere) this centre will align with our sun once more

    They turn it on in June but the colliding part of things won't begin until two months after it's switched on so if they turn us and the planet into dark matter or send us into a parallel universe or whatever at least we enjoy the summer.

    Please get sucked into a black hole and take your equinoxes with you. I suppose you believe stars determine your personality too. I don't mean to be rude but I hate people, in general. What "25,800 year cycle"? What are you basing in this on??? If the world DOES actually end, then you won't be able to say "I told you so", because we'd all be dead.

    ...and a man died during the construction of the port tunnel. Does that mean that the world is going to end in Ireland first?? ;)

    I'd much rather the world ended and we all go out together, I don't wanna miss out on anything...

    I'd love if we got a three day warning though and everyone just went out and got locked and went all hedonistic for a few days... But it'd just be riots and mayhem of course.

    The world may end for humanity in 2012. It may well end this summer. Hell, it may end before midnight tonight, but this will have nothing to do with the LHC or the Mayan calendar and everything to do with other events such as a massive meteor strike, full scale nuclear war, Earth being in the way of a gamma ray burst from a nearby dying star, etc etc.

    The LHC will be switched on and, no matter what happens to the human race afterwards, we will not be wiped out as a result of it.


    PS: Climate change is real. Just thought I'd mention that.

    I believe that 21/12/2012 will be the start of a new dawn for humanity. It will be the day that we make first contact with an alien race. They will help us share technology and bring us back up to scratch after the coming nuclear war. Within a few hundred years or so, this man will be flying the flag for humanity in the far flung depth of our galaxy.

    TBH, it's pretty obvious.
