It's deadly, but I'm biased cause I train there. Come down for a session or two and see if you like it.

Chanel is Mugendo Kickboxing - an excellent kickboxing club, but if your interested in Mix Martial Arts then this club is not for you. Namely because its only kickboxing, but its also got a very closed mind when it comes to MMA.

My recommendation to you would be to go up to Baldoyle, they've got a superb bunch of lads up there - no one is treated like a 'super star', the training is tough but fair and fun. You'll love it.

They've also got a full range of cardio & weight training equipment (free weights and amchines), punch bags & ring.

Of course it would be unfair not to bring your attention to the fact there's other MMA & kickboxing clubs on the northside whose owner's post here, ie Roper & Cowzerp (Finglas and Rush respectively).

Yes, its Larry Kidd - a lovely gentleman.

Chanel is a very traditional club too - they like to stand on ceremony!, and they have their favourites and unless your right up there fighting and doing well for the club its hard to break into that little circle to get the best training.

But if you put the work in, and your prepared to compete its a good club - but very traditional.

KO Martial arts is in glasneven, also near Cabra, Finglas area.

Thanks lads, went down to the one in Chanel last night, liked the atmophere and the trainers seemed good so i'll be sticking there, quick question though if someone trains in Mugendo when going to competitions down the line can they fight people who train in a differant kickboxing style like Mui Thai for example?

Yes they can. But mostly you'll compete in other AKAI events.

Your really better off asking this at the club, they won't look down their noses at you and will welcome any questions like this.

But so far as I'm aware they still frown upon MMA so if your thinking of going down the MMA route your probably training with the wrong people.

Well for the min basic kickboxing will be fine, they seemed ok with MMA I spoke to Larry and he said they train some BJJ as ground work and some other styles these days aswell..

Well it would be nice if they changed their opinion on MMA in Ireland.

Last time (it was as few year's ago) someone from the club got involved with MMA in Ireland they were told they'd be thrown out of the club and AKAI if they continued their involvment in it.

So their training BJJ there now!.. I'd love to see that one, who's coaching them BJJ?.

I think Larry is doing some of it and another one of the lads , I don't seem to understand what the big deal is about it, wanna give me some background on the big differances in it and why they are so against it?

To be honest it would be unfair of me to do that as it was a few year's ago and things may have moved on since then.

Larry doesn't have any BJJ background. But he was one of the founding members of Hercules Wrestling club in Lurgan St.

He's a really nice guy, a real gentleman & fit as a fiddle.

    I respect him alot.
