Noisy Thomson Sky HD box

Folks, bought a new sky HD box off a trader from Uk on ebay. It arrived this week and everything looked fine. However, box is terribly noisy. Even in standby mode, it sounds like its struggling forcing me to plug it out. I know there were issues with some Thomson boxes ok. My box came in a plain brown cardboard which got me a little suspicious. I read on another forum that these ones are reconditioned boxes. However, everthing was perfect inside and looked brand new. Have I bought a recondtioned box which isnt new at all? Im confused? Should a new one come in the shiny coloured box? Should I give it a few days? How do most people experience the Thomson HD boxes? Not sure to take this up with the trader or whether sky would help?

Could be the Hard Disk.

You don't get new Sky boxes on eBay really unless they fell of a lorry.

Sky will only help with ones bought direct from Sky.

An approved Sky wholesaler / retailer will only help with a box bought from that outlet.

Unless the trader is legitimate and trades apart from eBay you are unlikely to get any help. The box does work. Any receiver with a hard drive and/or fans is not silent.

Thanks Watty, yes box does work. When sound is on TV you cant hear it, however, if you mute sound it is quite noisy. The box is noisy when simply viewing sky or even in standby!!! I havent even recorded a programme yet on sky plus and attempted to play it back as I only set it up Wed evening and I was away last night. My information is the box is at its nosiest when using this function. They are a number of people who sell new HD boxes on sky. Your man had a good feedback from selling boxes, but I have my suspicions now it was a reconditioned one.
