Yea I take her point, but it's laboured and "sensitive". If she had a face like a bag o' hammers she may find she wouldn't be much happier. There would be something else to complain about. Human nature. The don't hate me cos I'm pretty, or I hate myself and how I look cos you don't see the "real" me stuff is a bit angsty for me. The more she focuses on that aspect the more she will project that onto the world and the more she'll see the world projecting that onto her. Self fulfilling, rinse and repeat type stuff.

OK anything that takes away from the character inside is a pain, but being pretty has more advantages than being seen as "ugly". Take two people of equal intellect and equal emotional balance and the more attractive will have an easier time of it all things being equal.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

I thought this girl made Irish girls look terrible.
Where does anybody get an attitude like that? She was so up herself it was unreal.
The funniest thing was that she presumed she was in the 'Top Three'.Then when she didnt place AT ALL she was disgusted.:):):)
As for all beautiful Irish girls being the same.....
well.....its hard to say. Walk in to the Pav in Trinity any day of the week and you might say yes. Fake tan, fake accents/fake everything....
But I know some of my friends are absolute babes(not in the bebo way!). natural hair/curves/boobs. and they dont even REALISE they are so gorgeous, let alone have an attitude about it.

OK now this is IMHO and having seen this stuff up close That's an extreme example of a subset of women that do act and think like that. This is particularly the case if their perceived social value is based almost entirely on their looks. I would say that the OP's question are beautiful Irish women really this shallow could be answered with a qualified yes, in certain circumstance and situations. It goes for any group where one quality is valued above others. That quality defines them and will be bolstered and defended to keep up in the pecking order. Her comment about natural selection has some validity, again in that particular milieu. It's as much to do with how she competes with her peers as it is with how she competes for male attention.

The highly qualified lassie plugs into that even more. Her qualifications stand for naught in her mind and those of her peers, because what's valued by the group is her looks so she plays the brains down to fit in and keep her status.

As pointed out before beauty is valued in our society. Of course it is it signifies at a very basic level reproductive fitness. Beautiful people have a generally easier time of it in society. It can be a burden too as it is by it's nature fleeting. This is even more the case with women who are judged for their beauty. There is a small enough window for them to be on top when compared to men. Men also have more freedom, time and opportunity to increase their value.

Is it shallow? Hard to say. It's a different value system and in that system what sounds daft to you or me, is what works. If the value was judged on intelligence and academic prowess the competition would be near enough the same, just less obvious, or more acceptable. That value system may be equally "shallow" or of little import to the women referenced. Clearly it is as the "brainy" one plays it down.

We all make value judgements based on looks, intelligence, emotional intelligence, success, social power, age, class etc. The more balanced people realise it's not just one thing and the "package" is what's important. they're just like everyone else but all their focus is on one thing not the range of things the rest of us may aspire to. That's what grates I reckon.

    Again only my humble..

Such is life and it's something that every child figures out that life's not fair.

True enough for sure. Kids may see it, but the mechanisms by which they deal with that may be missed all the way through life. That lack of fairness and how we react to it is where the problems lay. There will always be someone prettier, stronger, younger, older, richer, smarter, faster etc no matter who you are and you will be all of the above to someone else. To focus at either end of the spectrum is a waste of time. Often people see the lack of fairness in life and fight against it. You may as well fight water. It is what it is. Be who you are and the best that you can be and it matters little. Don't fight the water swim in it.

.... or something. Jebus I'm getting all philosophical there. :D

    Did I mention "Your ma"?.

I honestly thought that girl was hideous.

Ugly personality and to be quite honest she wasn't that attractive physically either. She's slim, sure, but her figure wasn't in proportion to itself.

yeah that bebo babe one really got on my nerves!

i thought the other two were fantastic though :)

I haven't seen this show and cant look at bebo in work but from what everyone is saying I think I may be in love with this girl.

If she can make so many people hate her so easily then I really like her.

Is this a good enough excuse to be a shallow, unpleasant cow though?

    btw, nice post Wibbs

Some posters have sort of 'excused' the brainy one (Claire Tully) of the shallowness of it all because she is... brainy, I don't get that. she's as bad as Deirdre Conroy imo, brainy or not. anyway 600 points just means that she's book smart and not necessrily street wise or, most importantly, a nice person (not jealous I swear!! lol, tbh I am more envious of her intelligence than her looks, give me those points over blonde and fake anyday):D

No I agree, it isn't. It's merely a reason. It would only be an excuse, or something to be pilloried for, or indeed maybe even to be admired, if she had the basic self awareness to realise, understand and exploit the system she was judging herself on. Sadly she doesn't, hence more to be pitied really.
    btw, nice post Wibbs
    I get lucky...:D

I would hope that she at least is aware of the environment she is trying to thrive in. If so then while I think it's daft, I would have a little more respect, though what she's trying to achieve from it I'm not so sure. Maybe something as simple as further validation from her peers for her beauty and how she has been judged on that. Or maybe she's just simply having a laugh. If so more power to her.
anyway 600 points just means that she's book smart and not necessrily street wise or, most importantly, a nice person (not jealous I swear!!
True. Intelligence and nice are not particularly linked. Without emotional intelligence anyway. I would agree partly that book smart isn't everything. Many I know who are, can be valuable and highly intelligent, but often the ability to think "sideways" is lacking. They may be able to count the trees, label them taxonomically, but the wood will remain just out of reach.
lol, tbh I am more envious of her intelligence than her looks, give me those points over blonde and fake anyday):D
Yea blonde and fake would look wrong on me.:D

    Yeah i totally agree.
Never saw the TV3 thing but just going from this thread, the TV3 girl doesn't sound as bad as the "brainy" one.
Just going on this thread, the TV3 one sounds like she's just another Paris Hilton wannabe, pretty but not too bright- and she places a lot of value in her looks. Nothing unusual about that.
    Depressing, yes, but not unusual.

But the "600 points" girl is a different story altogether.
Her bebo site is fairly odious tbh.
Who posts that they got 600 points on the front of their bebo site FFS.
The whole site seems nauseatingly self-congratulatory and preening.
    Where's the emotional intelligence?

Atleast the first girl got the "not too bright" excuse to fall back on.

And the page 3 thing- no doubt she's doing it to feel empowered :rolleyes::rolleyes: but does anyone here actually believe that empowerment sh1te.

She's what I'd consider a vacation. You'd go there once or twice, but you wouldn't stay there.
If you're looking for beauty and brains, look no further than Claire Tully, 600 points in her leaving, a degree from Trinity, and off to Oxford for her PhD. Was also on page 3 of the sun last week. I kid you not. Go figure.

    Edit - http://bebo.com/claire-tully

Alright for a rattle or two I suppose but as previous posters have said: book-smart doesn't equate to social-smarts. Seems a repulsive fcuk-wit to me, despite the degree which IMO she is using to excuse her shallowness.

I mean, Jaysus, hard house and James Blunt?

And does she even know where the shift key is on her keyboard? How the feck did she get 600pts in the L.C.? Now, far be it from me to imply on an internet forum that anything of the sort did actually happen, but my initial thought was that there was probably a note at the top of her English paper (Honours, I presume) promising to blow the marker if he gave her an A1?

    "Blanch Massive"? Come on.

And then to go and put pictures up of yourself in that great bastion of british journalism, The Sun, as if you're in some way proud of the fact?!?! The Sun!? Wouldn't even wipe me arse with the thing.

Sorry love. I'm gonna have to say no.

Or am I just being snobby and picky?:)

    I love this thread!!!

The way I see it, if girls wanna be shallow, then fine. If they wanna be bitchy and insecure, then that's fine too. If they have brains, then fine. If they don't, fine also. If they wanna be bebo queens, fine. If not, fine. If they wanna quote Paris Hilton, then that's just fine too. If they wanna be the exact opposite of all this, then....... fine!

As a guy, it's the wonderful variety and diverse nature of all things female that fascinates us, that keeps us so distracted, mystified and captivated that we just cannot do without. And thankfully, it will always be this way.

To me, girls will be girls, and thats just fine! :D

no, she's probably just using text speak (txt spk) which no-one can understand easily, irrespective of age !;)

the Bebo page is mild compared to the programme! I couldn't believe my ears when I was watching it! God love the poor chap that ends up being her permanant lap dog!

    Mmmh,

Theres alot of bitter and jealous people floating around this thread. A girl with an abundance of brains, stunning beauty and you still manage to knock her. Try drag her down so you dont feel so inferior.

,Trinity College, where I obtained a first class honours degree in Biochemisty n Immunology.Phew!-big words!
Lookin like I'm gonna be leavin ye all for the UK.....off to Oxford to study HIV-host interactions and immunodominance as seen in natural infection....specifically HIV-specific, HLA A*0201 restricted immunodominant cytotoxic T-cells responses.

This is a phenomenal achievement and instead of being proud of her you choose to belittle her. "book smart", "wheres the emotional intelligence". Just gtfo. Never seen such open display of bitterness. What more do you want ?
