Diary of A Beauty Queen: Are beautiful Irish Women Really This Shallow?

As I surf Boards I have TV3 on in the background, and a programme called 'Diary of A Beauty Queen' is on. The longer I watch the angrier I'm getting. The programme follow 3 seperate beauty queens: a Drag Queen in Limerick, a plus size beauty queen and a Bebo Beauty queen - all entering different competitions to win the crown.
The first two seem to have their heads screwed on an come across as genuinely nice people. The Bebo queen.... well ain't. She's very pretty (not Supermodel material by any stretch) but as the show went on in my eyes she got uglier by the second because of her ugly personality. Bitching about the other contestants, contantly blowing her own trumpet (I'm better than everyone here), quoting Paris Hilton (yes you read that right) and then begrudging the winner at the end.....

Did anyone else see it? Any thoughts?

Why would any man want to be with someone like this long term (apart from the obvious)? ;)
Would a man overlook such peronality issues because of the beauty queen attributes (i.e. hot looking chick)?

TBH I thought the mother was a nice sweet girl, Deidre just came across awful, one of those girls other girls avoid.
I'd put money on her trawling the net right now seeing if anyone is saying anything nice about her.

    Yeh I bet so too.

the Paris Hilton quote shrieked insecuity - 'It's better to be talked about that not being talked aboout'

Is it just coincidence though that the best looking was the shallowest?

I wanted to post about this too!! The limerick gay guy and the single mother were so sound, gracious and genuinely enjoying the whole process of competing. As for the Bebo one ...shes everything i despise about the yuppy/self obsessed/bitchy world that she lives in! False, arrogant, mean and shallow are a few words that sum her up! Guess who you'd have the craic with on a night out and not spend watching running in and out of the bathroom fawning over themeselves? I know loads of girls just like her and stopped socialising with them because the night was always pure drama! Shes a physically pretty girl but give her 10 years or so i can guarantee her list of friends will be fairly small!! Im glad she didnt win, purely for the fact it knocked her off her little pedestal she has herself on...

Ah it won't Ginny - sure we're giving out about her!

Although.... in her eyes.. publicity is publicity.... lol

Obviously not ALL beautiful Irish women are shallow but she does nothing to boost my argument. The minute anyone quotes Paris Hilton, (with it not being in jest), I lose the vast majority of respect for them. If that girl lost her looks tomorrow, which one of her 'friends' would want to know her?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭connundrum

Some people are shallow. They don't have to be beautiful or female.

I'd suggest that more people are self obsessed and attention hungry than are shallow.

And bebo queen ain't all that. Aine Chambers ftw :pac:

Answer the 2 questions so I can judge if you're shallow! lol ;)

I'm interested in the male view as to whether these ladies are girlfrind material (if you are male that is....!)

Hmm, briefly saw it for a minute or two.

IMO we all do beauty before personality, we all go wow-she/he's stunning and then we find out how self absorbed the person really is. Sometimes it's a little too late..... but it's the way the world is

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭connundrum

Feckin sure I'm shallow, turns out that my hot missus is intelligent and funny too ;)

These girls are girlfriend material for a lot of lads, lads who would be as shallow and materialistic as them. I firmly believe that there is someone for everyone in this world, it all depends on if the person in question wants a partner.

I'm the opposite really. Sometimes people have such mental power that they can make me drawn to them, nothing to do with beauty.

    +1

in the same way good looking people can become ugly to others because their personality (or lack thereof) shines through!

One night stand material, definitely. Girlfriend material, not a hope in hell.

I'll admit to having gone out with a girl like her (several actually) when I was younger but life always became a dramatic rollercoaster overnight. I don't know how it happens to be honest. With looks like that, all these girls need to do is develop a decent personality and they're the perfect package. But you're one on that show tonight was decidedly ugly as soon as she opened her mouth. All the beauty in the world won't afford you any class.

...any guy who says he wouldn't is lying though.

    Girlfriend material? Nah.
She's what I'd consider a vacation. You'd go there once or twice, but you wouldn't stay there.
If you're looking for beauty and brains, look no further than Claire Tully, 600 points in her leaving, a degree from Trinity, and off to Oxford for her PhD. Was also on page 3 of the sun last week. I kid you not. Go figure.

Go to http://www.goldenpages.ie and type in "Intelligent attractive women" and see what it tells you. Go on!

The problem with attractive women (all over, not just here) is that the more attractive they are, they more shallow they are as well.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    Hey all.
I was one of the beautyqueens from the Simply Be show! I am too mortified to actually look at the programme!
Some of the girls in the plus size show were hired models!!! So us amatures were a bit out of our league!
They interviewed me several times... most of the other girls were a bit shy. ..I wonder if I made a show of myself!!?! I got three calls from people telling me I was on tv... I am not sure I can even show my face tomorrow!

Going on something like that in the first place is enough to make a show of yourself tbh.

Yes she would be my girlfriend until I got to bang the jasus out of her a few times then I'd be like SO outta there. Would be nice to use for purely physical reasons.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 968 ✭✭✭Pigletlover

The plus size model (hate that term but don't know her name) came across as nice and down to earth and the two Limerick lads seemed up for a laugh, but that bebo babe one was such a tit, talking about building yourself up for a fall :D I was delighted when she didn't come anywhere. She wasn't even all that, she was by no means ugly, but she wasn't nearly as gorgeous as she made herself out to be either. The really sad thing is there's girls on that bebo babes page today telling her what a great person she is, wtf???

"The problem with attractive women (all over, not just here) is that the more attractive they are, they more shallow they are as well"

Not neccessarily true. Its simply a question of rarity.

In most countries in the world, a far greater percentage of women between the age of 18-45 are attractive than in Ireland. In Ireland good looks are a relative rarity, and Irish women tend to lose their good looks by the time they're in their late twenties.

Thus a far greater value is placed on what other countries would consider merely average looking women. This leads the ones who have good looks to be quite conceited about it.

For an example of what I mean: Have you ever in your life seen or met an Irishwoman that had anywhere close to this level of sexiness?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-A65gVY5cE

    Thought not.

You should watch it! I though the plus size models came across very well ;)- i.e. they had brains and were supporting each other - the bebo lark was all knife-in-back stuff - very cringey and shallow imo.....

    meh.

Eh first of all i'm female:rolleyes:

second, that punctuation mark at the end of the thread title is a question mark posing the question (not generalising) 'Are beautiful Irish Women Really this shallow?"

As you can see from posters views there doesn't seem to be a genralised opinion out there......

miss bebo lol. How could she not be shallow/self-obsessed/fake tits'n'tan, coming from that?

As regards pleasurable looking females being shallow in general, I think it comes down to how much of a brain they have to go along with the looks...if that brain is bit small, then they become self obsessed as they slowly realise that looks may be all they have and everything starts to revolve aroud that. They have attention paid to them because of the looks and they learn to feed on that attention. It's a downward spiral from there on.
If they have a bit of a brain then they realise that those looks aren't everything and that it's pointless being a self obsessed bimbo...but there's nothing wrong with looking good at the same time, however it's not the be all and end all...these women get on with life, doing other things and form a more rounded personality.

These days it's somewhat easy to be good looking...you can fake just about anything, particularly in a medium like social networking....however it's pretty difficult to fake a decent personality and an adept mind...
She's what I'd consider a vacation. You'd go there once or twice, but you wouldn't stay there.
    That about sums it up...
    Hit and run.

Wow a program about 3 very diverse women and you then assume that is enough of a sample to make sweeping generalisations about most irish women ?

You fail at statistical anaylses and life.

Hmmm...do any of the moderators actually know what this topic is even about???

Anyway, I'm just watching the programme in question here on Sky+ and my jaw is on the floor at the behaviour of that Deirdre Conroy girl. She has actually just said, and I quote exactly:
"All girls are bitchy, it's in their nature. It's just natural selection (giggle)" "A girls attitude is that if I can put someone down to a level that they won't have the confidence to go dancing, or wear that, or approach him, then that's how their minds work. That's how MY mind works (giggle)"
"Male attention is good, what girl doesn't like male attention. It's the reason we get up, and dress nicely and put on makeup in the morning and anyone who says that they don't is a liar"
Then her friends go on to flatter her about how "jazzed" they are to out with her cos of all the male attention she gets and how you "definitely don't wanna get in a fight with this girl" at which Deirdre mistakenly thinks her friends means a physical fight and poses a sickening fists up kinda pose, until her friend corrects her that she means a "verbal fight" at which Deirdre nods in solemn agreement.

Are you listening feminists!!!? I mean, I just cannot believe my ears and eyes!! and I'm only ten minutes into the prgramme!
I guess at least now the country knows exactly what kind of a vacuous b*@ch this girl really is.

BEBO BABE Awards...I've seen it all now (mutter mutter....)
