Possible to fit a kitchen chimney hood/extractor fan

    I currently have an integrated extractor fan in my built in kitchen. The vent hole is in the wall above the existing cupboards and there is a flexible tube which takes extracted air to the outside.

    The newer style chimney hoods (usually stainless steel/glass) appear to have the vent go into the ceiling not the wall.

    Does anyone know if it is possible to fit one of these chimney hoods using my existing wall hole or would I need to make a new hole via by ceiling?

    Any help gratefully received.

    you could fit it through the wall use flexable duct from any shop that sells cooker hoods
    If old hole is too low in wall for new hood you will have to make new hole further up but you can still go through wall

    the cowel on top of the extractor usually only goes to ceiling level for aesthetic reasons. the flexi hose comes out the top of the extractor and is hidden by the box cowel, you could attach the flexi hose to the existing vent if they line up. its also handy and neater if you hide the electrics behind the same cowel.

    Many thanks for your advice and I now understand how the cowel 'to the ceiling' works. My existing vent ia about 2 feet to the side of where a new cowel would run vertically, so I suppose that would mean a new hole would have to be made. Is this very difficult? Or - do I have any other options?

    Depending on the wall theres a few ways to make the new hole , a core bit is the neatest way about it but its a long process , we used a mini kango hammer in my kitchen , (9 inch cavity blocks)

    Many thanks demanufactured. I think that a new hole will be necessary and it is good to know that it is not TOO hard to do. Presumably the old vent hole can then just be blocked off internally. There is another normal vent in one of the other walls.

    Some hoods may need to be open for ventilation or something, so your existing holes may not be cooperate for this ...so better make a new hole via by ceiling ...
