Any decent valve amp techs around the Limerick area?

    I don't know anyone doing that in Limerick, but if you want to describe the problem/query, one of us might be able to help a little anyway.

    I have my eye on an amp but the owner says it needs new power valves. Says a sustained note fades out and crackles at the end. It sounds from the description like it needs new valves but I wouldn't be 100% sure myself. It's a Marshall Silver Jubilee 1x12 combo, model 2554.

    It's basically the amp I've been wanting for a few years and it's being offered at a good price but I'd need it re-valved. I was thinking of trying a re-valve myself (I'm okay around electronics and the biasing procedure on the amp seems okay) but if that doesn't work out, I'd need a tech.

    If I threw in some new el34s without biasing do you think it would indicate whether the issue is indeed the el34s? I know it wouldn't sound the best till it's biased but if it got rid of the fading and crackling note, you think I'd be safe enough?

    He's in limerick. He fixed a Marshall for a friend of mine once and I got some cables that he made before too. He should be able to sort you out.

    Yes, this would okay. If the EL34s currently in it haven't completely melted down on the current bias then a fresh set will probably be okay for at least a while.

    Has anyone got an email address for Bob O'Dricoll? He mightn't like strangers ringing him up about amp repairs?

    dont think he has an email. I was given the number by someone else, and got bits and bobs fixed by him. Give him a bell...
