Attic Insulation - What type?

Hi All

I am currently in the middle of a self build in Carlow. The plasterers are currently in and I thought that I could use this free time to source what type of insulation to put in the attic. I have 134 sq meters to cover. I am planning to put in one row between the joists and then lay 5" x 2" [maybe 4"x2" ?? ] @ 16" centres on top of these at a right angle and running another row of insulation in there. Then putting down some chipboard to allow a good storage clean space up there.

Now I am a bit lost as to what the insulation should be and that is where I am looking for your advice. My future brother in-law is just finished a self build and he used "ursas fibre glass insulation" [not sure of spelling] as it was the cheapest in local providers. However I am thinking about what would be a good compromise between getting the best benefit from the insulation at a reasonable cost.

Has anybody any recommendations as to what insulation to use in the attic?

Proformance wins over cost for me everyday.

Investigate a few, and compare cost vrs proformance. The way I like to compare is to calculated a weighted proformance. So if one insulation is half as effective, I price twice as much, basically price all insul to the same proformance

Are you getting the build certified??? If so, the insulation specification should be to the satisfaction of teh certifier.

typically, 300mm of a quilted type meets minimum regulations, whereas 200mm of a 'kingspan' foam type meets minimum regulations

If going for quilted I would be looking at putting in 600mm as that is what was recommended by the engineer. However where I am stuck is knowing what makes there is available out there, if they are any good and approximately what per m2 is their cost. That way as Mellor has said I could get a weighted performance for the insulation.
