    Coppercop,

You need to be able to read 4th line up from bottom of chart with corrected vision.

I think for uncorrected vision it is the 5 line up 6/18.

    http://www.2020opticians.com/book/need.html

You can print out the above chart on A4, stand 20ft away and practice.

They also ask you to read out some pretty small text from a page with no glasses!! I think its called binocular vision N5 or N6.

    Regards Mickey2186.

A few people in campaign 13 have failed due to BMI being over 30.

They have been made to do the PCA as part of their appeal, so better to make sure the weight (if applicable) is well down prior to the medical.

lasek wavefront. complete pain in the rear for a few days after but its grand now. just going to take another week or two for my vision to come on properly though.

the results with lasik are much quicker and painless but i wasnt suitable for it

Got LASIK Wavefront myself in June 2007, and on my way to Hotel Garnerville in April!! I wouldn't have passed the eyesight test, failed it years ago when I applied for the last part-time reserve campaign that was run. So great to have 20/20!

Does anyone know how long the ISTs will take, not the actual test but to test everyone - a lot of you seem to have dates for May and mine is April, just wondering how long that aspect of it will take. Mind you, if what I've heard is true and there were in excess of 8000 applications this time round I'm guessing a while!

The Doctor does ask if you have ever suffered from depression etc.

You need to make sure you have all the documentation relating to your treatment and letters etc from you GP stating that you are now in better health.

They will also want to know what the chances are of the depression re- occurring.

Make sure you give them as much info as possible!!!

Is it advisable to go to your doctor b4 the medical and get your notes to take with you???? Just a thought. I dont know if you're even allowed to do that but surely its your info and they would have to release it to you?

Thanks for quick reply guess its a one on one with the Doc see what happens, It was a long time ago so hopefully it wont be a bother....

You have to get the questionnaire signed by you GP.

At this stage the GP is mean't to check that the info you have provided is correct and if necessary should expand on any medical conditions noted.

If you have had any operations in the past OH will want to see what was done and will probably want to see hospital letters and consultant's letters/reports to confirm that you are now well and should remain so for the forseeable!

You can go to your GP and get the relevant parts of your medical history if needed.

If you feel there is anything in your past medical history that may require a report it is definately advisable to go to the medical with as much positive info as you can, otherwise you will only have a few weeks afterwards to run about trying to gather the required info!!

Hey - when i first applied for campaign 13 i had the initial selection test in August and went to assessment centre in October, vetting in Jan, Medical in March and still waiting.

Prob going to be a couple of months, it's a pretty slow process.

    Hi all,

After months of searching the net for information relating to PSNI recruitment I came across this here document: http://www.psni.police.uk/index/departments/pg_equality/pg_eqia_of_psni_recruitment.htm

It was an independent investigation carried out to evaluate the recruitment process of the PSNI. It's a pretty long document but you can flick through it to find relevant info. It gives statistics on everything such as how many applied in each campaign, from what age group, how many dropped out, what percentage passed ITC, A/C, Medical, vetting etc. It even shows why some candidates failed medical but obviously it doesn’t mention names etc!

At first I though I didn’t stand a chance in regards to the recruitment process as im only 17 but it’s my 18th Bday on the day of my IST but after reading this I know it’s a very fair process and age doesn’t come into it anywhere.

It also explains the recruitment process in a lot of detail aswel for those who are unsure of any part of it.

It states somewhere in it that home office guidelines do not apply for the PSNI in regards to eyesight as the PSNI is the only force in the UK that carry personal protection weapons so obviously for that reason they are a little more stringent.

Someone said that over 8,000 applied and according to this document on average only 60% of those who are invited to IST attend and then only 60% pass and more people drop out even after passing A/C and quite a large percentage fail to attend medial or simply fail medical! Some people even drop out of the merit pool!!

So its not as bad as it appears!! If you stick at and provided you pass the different tests of course you have a good chance of getting a place!

    Hey there Redsurfer :)

I am in same boat as you - i think it's too late to be called up for 20th April, would mean not even a months notice :( - so May is our next hope?

Have you called for your merit number or to see about vetting or anything?

When did you do medical and send off vetting just out of interest?

    Fingers crossed!

hi sorry for late reply i not called up to ask for my number , i sent my vetting of last week of dec and did med 1st week of march

Ciaran good post, I have read that before one time, lots of good stats.

The process has changed a bit since that was published though, in regards to the formation of the merit pool and carrying out less medicals and vetting, to the make it more streamlined.

17 % of people dont attend the assesment centre. Thats alot. I know of two people who didnt attend who im friendly with, just didnt like the idea of having to be put on the spot. 17% is still a high number, why bother applying if you dont want to go through with it?

Yea it’s pretty outdated but im sure some of the statistics will be the same in C14. I know of two people who have applied for C14 and have got dates for the IST but are saying they won’t sit the IST now for some reason.

8,000 may seem like a large number of applicants but when you do the entire math only a small number remain. Can’t understand why anyone would dropout of the merit pool though!

Our dates are very very similar!

Perhaps we will hear of our fate around the same time????

I haven't rang either - figured it was out of my hands now anyway

You keep me posted if you hear anything and i will do same :)

    Fingers crossed! ;)

I dont see any reason why we shouldn't just use this thread! What does everyone else think?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

A new thread wont cost us a bean, and it will stop people in campaign 14 getting mixed up with comments people post referring to campaign 13.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,012 ✭✭✭MrsGeneHunt

I think we should carry on using this thread, clearly now most of us on it now are in for C14 and/or out of/still waiting to hear on C13 so we are all of like mind!
    :D

It’s handy just to have all the info in one thread especially when basically nothing has changed in regards to criteria etc between both campaigns. Anyway its pretty easy to differentiate between the two campaigns because when some one mentions vetting or medicals at this stage you know they mean C13 and by the time C14 reaches that stage C13 will be closed but the info regarding it will still be accessible easily by C14 candidates but anyway its not really a big deal ill happily still nose through two threads if it helped me!
