    What's country money? Is it for venturing outside the Pale?

    I'm not sure if they use the euro outside Dublin, so maybe it's some kind of rashers and sausage allowance to use as bartering...

    Just kidding :)

    OP: Do you mean as part of your job you have to travel a long distance in a company car, and you're wondering what kind of pay you should get for this?

    Is it what the rest of us refer to as 'mileage allowance'?

    EDIT:....or should that be 'kilometre allowance'?

    i think what you are getting is travel not country money because travel does decreses if you use a compamy car i think but with country money i think it is a set rate but you are only suposed to get one or the other

    Its called subsistence pay. Different from mileage allowance in that you are paid it tax free (up to 7000.00 per year) if you are away from the normal place of business for more than ten hours. It is based on a sliding scale depending on the number of hours you are away, for example if you overnight the rate is higher. Its different from mileage which is paid if you use your own car/van.
    The company sets its own rated but most link it to the civil servants rates which are very generous.
    It is a great way of bringing up your income tax free but you must keep a record of where you were on a given day in case you get an audit by revenue.
    You should Google civil servant subsistence rates to find the rates but I myself claim if I'm away from the office;
    5 hours + 17.50 euro
    10 hours plus 35.00 euro
    overnight 50.00 (does not include cost of accommodation)

    Hope this is of some help, an accountant should have a better knowledge of this.
