Just phone PSNI direct on 028 90650222 - ask for Vetting Dept.

If you cant speak to them, recruitment office can let you know your status.. I think.

Thats not good at all, would rather they had them throughout the summer.

it means come June if I havent got a date (if i pass medical and vetting of course) I will be very uncertain of what is happening and will have to do assesment centre with alot of pressure added, then could still get a call up a week later.....

They really know how to torture people

    Fingers crossed for ya Coopercop!

Just a question to clarify though I think I already know the answer - the merit pool, presumably the smaller your number then the higher up you are? One is presuming they start at one and take it from there? Or am I being a total dufus?? So if you were anywhere between 1 - 300 ish you'd be pretty much okay, medical and vetting notwithstanding?

And the IST is just a pass or fail and it really all starts at the assessment centre day?

    YIKES

The smaller the number the better. The merit list is based on the score you get at the Assesment centre.

A number around 300 would be in my opinion be almost a sure thing you will get in if you pass the medical and vetting.

However alot comes down to religion and making up equal numbers. From what has happened this campaign, there seems to be an obvious lack of Catholics scoring highly, since myself and a few others have had quite high merit numbers and still got vetting, and one fella who was in 700's has even been recruited.

Hey all im doin this through my phone so not sure if it will turn out alright. Anyway, just want to know if the Initial Selection in May is just 2 exams or more? The book you get How to Pass The Police etc. is a bit hard to understand. And also are the verbal reasoning questions in the exam like the trial one's you get off the select website or like the ones in the book?

Yeah the whole 50:50 blows, I am non RC female and 37, so will be looking to do really well at the assessment centre in order to maximise chances of getting offered place. Medical and vetting dont bother me at all, fit as a fiddle and sound and a pound LOL

the whole 50:50 thing blows??? yep, that certainly shows a lot of respect for a diversity, thats a debate for a different time and different place.

Hey I don’t think that’s very fair! I mean im RC and I don’t agree with 50:50 either because it simply discriminates against members of a non RC community. I can’t see how that shows a lack of respect for diversity. Anyway I think we should all just leave it at that as your right it’s neither the time nor place for that debate.

I got my test date today - mine is in May aswell. Wish they would put me out of my misery about campaign 13 though. If I knew one way or the other it would allow me to concentrate on what i'm doing! :(

    Head is frazzled!!:o

Yea that would be annoying! I bet ya ill have to go through the same for a couple of campaigns before I get offered a place! Although at least you’re still in with a chance with C13, right?

Another great thing about a career in the PSNI is the transfer options! So if I got in eventually and I really didn’t like it (but I know I’d like it ) I can attempt to transfer to any other station across the 6 counties or I could transfer to numerous other forces across the UK. I found out last night when I was just browsing the net that Australian and Canadian police forces are attempting to recruit British Serving officer’s aswel so the opportunities are endless!

Officerproblem a mate of mine is just started..he was waiting quite a while but hes in. :)

Keep positive if you havent had a Dear john:mad: letter yet..you are still in....

Alot of these went out Feb 08.....so i think you still have good chance...Its my own personal opinion though......

Does anyone know of medical conditions that will 100% rule you out.....rabies..no brain...that sort of thing...? Or does it all depend on your GP

Sorry if i seem flipant but its a serious question....!

I know of a person who passed everything bar the medical! His eye sight failed him but apparently it isn’t that bad!

Now he’s getting laser eye surgery and has to sit out for twelve months and then he will attempt to rejoin but don’t know what campaign that will be! I wear glasses sometimes but hope my vision won’t be my downfall!

Does anyone here know if consensia will be recruiting for part-time psni officers again? I know they did back in July 06 anyway

I wear glasses am i completly f....ked then or is it dependant on each individual case?

I think if you wear glasses you are just asked to bring them with you to medical - if you go back through this thread you will see posts discussing the medical - i'm sure there's enough there to answer any queries you may have :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 160 ✭✭ciaran2008

I wouldnt be worrying just yet! As far as I know your eyesight will be tested as part of the medical examination and its pass or fail and everyone does the same one test!

You have probably already read this but this is what the consensia website states on eyesight:

    Vision

Binocular vision 6/6 aided or unaided

(if visual aids are used must have 6/12 or better in best eye)

    Unaided acuity 6/36 binocularly

Near vision N6 aided or unaided

    Normal visual fields

    Severe colour deficiency not acceptable

i think you have to be 6/12 unaided. i had laser surgery this week because i was no where near that standard.

it wasnt cheap and was a painful few days but no gain without pain etc:)

Exactly what ciaran said:) i think it you have to be able to read about half way down an eyechart without glasses or contacts

    Hi Ciaran2008,

I think the eye sight requirements have changed for this campaign!
I think I read something on the Guidance notes section regarding eye sight.
    Could be wrong tho.

    Hey Conor 123,

So are they less stringent this time around in regards to eyesight?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 97 ✭✭conor123

havent got a clue ciaran. i couldnt even read the top line so i had no choice but to get it. im still waiting to get a medical date for campaign 13 but have also applied for 14. looked at the consensia site the other day and there didnt seem to be as much info this year to be honest
