I need to use a cd on a laptop without a cd drive. I've taken an internal CD IDE drive from another PC and hooked the IDE cable and power from the HDD enclosure to it and connected the USB.

I hear the familiar USB "beep" when i plug it in but it won't show up as a drive letter. In the device manager it just shows up a "!".

    This should work right?

Set the drive to master using the jumpers beside the IDE cable if it's not already.
Some external enclosures have difficulty identifying a drive set to cable select..
