yea,but there lies the problem, when would i have to defer it to?is there not only one intake a year now?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 35 greengloves

has there,i did not realise that i must say,i'm going to call them up tomorrow and try to get everything sorted!
i cant make it to the 3rd March induction, does anyone know if it would be ok if my parents went along and got the information for me?
psni,im guessing you are a police officer, can you tell me of the sporting opportunities available,i know they have a football team,is there a boxing team?and the gaelic team regularly play the garda?

why did my reply get put in before your question, incase anyone is confused, no i dont read peoples minds... :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

I would really doubt if your parents would be allowed to go for you, its the police your getting into, has to be some security measures in place, and having people represent you at inductions is more than likely going to be no go. ask and find out but anyway

to reassure you greengloves. there are 440 places. only 50 per intake, so theres at least 8 maybe 9 intakes on this campaign.

    any news goodcopbadcop

unfortunately yes. The words no news is good news just wont wash anymore. Finally got an answer from recruitment about what is going on and i have a very high merit placing, so looks like it will be next campaign for me.

Still no offical word to say Im not getting in but the letter must surely just be a matter of time.

There's an intake every 5 weeks except for either June/July so the trainers can take holidays. Explain everything to Recruitment and they should be able to defer you so you can take your final exams in May.

You can't send the folks along on their own. That's not how the night works.

Yes, there's a boxing club open to you as soon as you join. The same applies with Gaelic football and whatever else tickles your fancy. I'll have to pass on the last question. Don't know how often they play the GS.

Get your AC feedback and analyse it closely. Find out the areas you need to improve on. The fact that you got this far means you have a bunch of skills that many others don't have. All you have to do is refine them a little and you're in.

    Hi all

So glad to get some up to date info on the psni recruitment thing!

Am in the latest campaign, have been through medical, failed on "body composition", went to gp and appealed stating that although my bmi is outside the "normal" range, I go to the gym 3 times per wk and play football twice a week, and that I feel that I would be fit enough.

Got a reply saying that my comments were noted and that they were offering me a chance to do a pca. having read through other postings i hope it's the gym circuit!

havent rang yet to get my merit pool no but what are the chances that i'll be offered a place in march / april?

Yes, the PCA is the gym circuit. 3 times in under 3:43 and you're in, although this is unfair because plenty of people fail it first time AFTER they've got through. Lots of sprint work ok mate?

Thanks - in terms of timings etc, i had until the 20th to say whether i wanted to do it, and have let them know that i'm going for it.will that put me in with a march or april intake?

thanks for the advice on sprint work - you now know why my user name is keepon runnin!

Most likely April although they keep a list of people on standby if others back out at the last minute, so they might put you on that as well. Running is fine, but it's the stopping and starting that catches people out in the PCA. Sprints on a rower are fantastic for preparing for it. Level 10, 10 x 1-minute sprints as fast as you can with 10 x 1-minute medium paced breaks in between each sprint to catch your air. Not easy.

Could someone tell me what the process is when starting garnerville, how long do u live in?? And also i don't drive so i am relying on my dad for transport, do we get advanced driving course as i've failed twice on my
driving test this year due to my instructor bein a muppet and failing me for stupid things ;)

Havent got my start date yet but passed my medical so just want to be prepared

The first 4 weeks are residential however they do let you out at the weekends.

No idea how the driving would work, I thought a license was essential? I can’t see you being allowed to do the response driving on R plates but I’m sure PSNI will clarify.

    Martin.

no,the license isn't essential,i don't have one and was offered a place in garnerville.although i have every intention to do my license during my training.
i just rang up the appointments department to talk about deferring my entry, they were rather crude and just told me to post off my confirmation letter.i've written out a wee explanation of why i can't start on March 16 and asked to basically be deferred until after May.i was told there is an intake every 5 weeks so 10 weeks time would be perfect for me.

I'm not surprised. For some reason, I'd say they were expecting your call. Remember that anything you post here can be read by anybody with internet access - that includes your soon-to-be employer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 35 greengloves

haha, yea i suppose you are right PSNI,i just really hope that they allow me to defer,id love the opportunity to work in the police, and i also think it would be beneficial to me and my soon-to-be employers that i had a degree.
i was reading up on that Police Federation thing PSNI,it sounds really good, alot of benefits. You say that "you will get injured",why is this?have you had many injuries? Thanks very much for your post on Garnerville, very helpful,it's a bit like boarding school isn't it.:D

When you arrest some people, they don't take it too well. You'll get spat at, kicked, punched and headbutted. Women tend to bite and use their nails. Ask a cop in any country and you'll hear exactly the same thing.

Wow. Over 10% of you will already know each other through this forum... and you ALL owe me a drink! :D

i was under the assumption the advanced driving course would get us our license automatically. am i wrong. is it ok not to have license.

You don't need a license to join it seems but I doubt you’d be allowed to take either the basic or response driving courses without first having a full UK license. I could be wrong though, best check with PSNI though.

    Martin.
