Lol the funny thing is ur using a GTs while im using a not as good 8800gt and im using a dual core while ur using a quad which makes a diffence :)

also want to give me ur Q6600 and see what clocks i can get out of it :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

I can take the quad a good bit higher and take the gts higher as well, just don't particularly like raising clocks without a practical reason...call this a 'casual' 3dmark run :D

Perhaps we will see the max I can get out of it soon..I've been reading that the general max people get out of the B3 is 3.6/.7Ghz with Water cooling, so I'd say 200mhz more is about the limit of what I'll get out of it with my current cooler. Don't think I'd bother overclocking the GTS, barely makes any difference really....it's all CPU..

I think I can stay happy with my 13.8K, about 16 months ago I was getting 1.5k on '06 :D

Lol 06 is nearly all Gpu overclock ur gts and ur results should jump, well i got water cooling so u could drop over ur b3 if ya want :)

my last run of 3d mark was with E8400 at 4.2

Well I know GPU is important but when it gets to the stage that the cpu isn't really bottlenecking much anymore (I had a 4300 until today, quad @ 3ghz vs dual @3 = 2k+ difference) overclocking the gpu isn't really gonna give a huge jump....suppose it depends on how importantly you view your score, I was never hugely in tweaking my setups and squeezing the best out of it unless applications demanded it practically!

Guess I might try 3.2 when I get time, and if needs be add a bit of an oc to the gts too, get it past 14k...

Sadly I've work in a few hours, and I intended getting to sleep some time ago! :p

Got it no problems actually, and I think the GTS will take more easily...

    so here it is:

    Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz
    Single 8800GTS 770/1020/1870

Yeah....2x Evga Ultra's running at standard clocks and with a load of background task running too:rolleyes:
I've had the proc past 4.2GHZ stable. Might run 3dmark again with the proc and gfx cards turned up a little more ;)

Okay....just finished running 3Dmark and here's the result...

    E8500 @ 4.227GHZ stable
    2x Evga 8800 Ultra overclocked to 650mhz
Had to tweak the voltages but temps are well within limits

is 3dmark06 optimised for quad core's?

    comparing nforce's score of 3958 for his E8500 @ 4.227GHZ stable

compared to my qx6700 @ 2.66ghz stock it scored 4251.

note: quality greatly reduced due to size of .bmp file.

Yep...don't think i'll push this system any further. My new system should see me well into the 20's;)...as soon as I get my finger out and build it that is:(

    something is a miss here.

oc my cpu from stock @2.66ghz to 2.97ghz.
temps are under 40oC so thats a bonus.

stuck my second 8800gt in the machine.
    also took out my mushkin redline 8000 xp2 2gb 1 x 1 sticks
and put in ocz reaper 4gb 2 x 2 sticks

booted into vista as i couldnt get sli running in xp32bit.

    here's the results

    57910219li4.gif

    small change in results.

    should my cpu be lower?
    is it vista?
    is it the ram?

hdr/sm3.0 saw a really nice jump. expected more but its only on stock.
    sm2.0 saw a shíte increase.
but the cpu baffled me completly!

    any ideas lads?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,824 ✭✭✭RoyalMarine

ok, rammed the cpu up to 3.2ghz now.

    85660906wh7.gif

still in vista. temps are still looking good. im gonna try for 4ghz when i wake up tomorrow.
hopefully ill get it running in xp and maybe ye guys can figure out why there was such a change in scores when i added the 8800gt and new ram.

with the cpu @ 3.2 im still getting a lower score than i was with it at stock @ 2.6 in xp.
