I am using a cracked iPhone on O2 Ireland.

I recently downloaded a package to allow sending and receiving MMS. It's called SwirlyMMS.

My problem now is I can't seem to get it to work with the setting I have found around. There seems to be a few opinions on O2 Ireland MMS setting.

Anyone using this package already and got is working?

    The required fields are:-

MMSC. (i.e. mmsc.mms.o2.ie:8002) This seems to be the same with all sources.

Proxy. (seen a few options for this)

Then for MMS specific APN Settings I need.

APN. (seen a few options for this)

Username. (Some say no username some say use gprs)

Password. (Some say no password some say use gprs)

    Any info much appreciated.

    Thanks guys

Sorry guys but I think I might have got it working. I have been trying a mix of all the options I found and I think I got a set that works. It sent and was received. Have to wait till later to check if I can receive them though.

Here they are for anyone else trying.

    MMSC. mmsc.mms.o2.ie:8002

    Proxy. 62.40.32.40:8080

Then for MMS specific APN Settings

    APN. wap.dol.ie

    Username. gprs

    Password. gprs

And set the image size to Medium with is 100kb

Looks like I jumped the gun a little. The sending MMS seems to work fine with these settings but with this package when you receive an MMS you have to "Fetch" it. When i try this I get a error.

timeout or error when reading http header
    Could not fetch MMS
    Check your settings!

Anyone got any ideas what I need to change from the above.

    Thanks

Hi - I'm one of the suckers who signed up today for the O2 Ireland iPhone.

I never knew you couldn't really do MMS on an iPhone...can't believe I let that one slip by...but then again, it's never mentioned on any official demos or in the blurb.

So, to get it to work on one of the phones released today in Ireland, do I have to do something like the above?

    thanks
    Karl

Do you actaully use MMS a lot?
I mean you can just send an email from the iphone instead.
I never once used mms so wont miss it at all.

For email I use a paid subscription to Hotmail which unfortunatly the iPhone doesn't accomodate. You have to go into it through the internet so it is actually cheaper to send the MMS.

Being honest I don't use it very often but since I havn't had it I find I needed it a few times. It's handy on sites when you want to describe something to people who are off site. The photo can just speed up the conversation.
Mostly use it for sending though so I am not to worried about the receiving yet.

Well I suppose I previously would have often taken a pic with the phone cam and then sent it to someone by MMS - which is what happened today. My g/f wanted me to send her a pic I'd just taken - and then I found I couldn't.

I suppose I would probably use this functionality once a week....but then I probably did it because it was easy to do.

If there's no easy way around this I'll live with it. Now that it's released on O2 and other people will discover this, I guess there will be more questions about it.

That is the package we are talking about.

It's the settings for retrieving the MMS messages set to you that I am trying to tie down.

Are you prepared to jailbreak your phone for to install Swirly MMS?
Why did you sign up to a contract so??
BTW I could never get that software to work on Vodafone

Come on man. Read the first post.

My phone is cracked and I just happen to be using it on O2 but I have had it for months and am not signed up to any iPhone contract.
It is obviously Jailbroken or I wouldn't have been able to crack it or put SwirlyMMS on it in the first place.

I can send MMS with Swirly I just can't get it to download them from O2 when I receive one even though it does let me know one is waiting for me.

Right lads. Looks like it was a flault with SwirlyMMS. There is a new release of Swirly now available and it works perfectly with the above settings. You need some sort of viewer to see the incoming MMS which I havn't found yet. I'll keep you informaed.

I got an O2 PAYG SIM, do i need to request MMS capability from O2, or should it work by default

when i try and use swirly, latest version, i get an error

    Failed to send MMS
The network reported: service denied (pe)

If you could send MMS before you started using the iPhone then there is no reason you sould not be able to send.

I think for PAYG though you need to change the APN to pp.wap.dol.ie

    Try that.

same error...not overly concerned, i'll be switching to O2 billpay as soon as i can get out of my "3" contract next month, i'll try again then.

    thanks

Just out of interest. Does the M symbol in the top right of the screen beside the battery indicator turn green. If not then the settings a way off. When you make the change to the settings turn the phone off completely (i.e. hold top button for a few seconds). Then see if you get the symbol to go green. Should work then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Gryzor

yep, the "M" is in green....still get the error though???

    settings are:

    MMSC. mmsc.mms.o2.ie:8002

    Proxy. 62.40.32.40:8080

    APN. wap.dol.ie / pp.wap.dol.ie (tried both)

    Username. gprs

    Password. gprs

The only other thing then is making sure your Image size is set to medium. If it doesn't work then I can only assume it's to do with the PAYG card.

    Hi,

    I have a 1.1.4 jailbroken iPhone...
I downloaded swirly MMS and when i go into it, it just goes back out after a second or two... Should i downgrade to 1.1.2 as it is said to be more stable and if so could someone give me a link 'cos i don't know how to do it.

    Thanks,
    I-T-Demo

same happened to me, i was on an older version...

get the latest version 0.3.6, by adding this to you're sources list in the installer

    swirlyspace.com/SwirlySpace.xml

Edit: just saw you're on 1.1.4, i'm on 1.1.3 and it works.....worth a try anyway

First uninstall the old version from your phone. Then install the new one. Restart your phone completely after the install (i.e. hold the top button for a few seconds) when you restart it should work.

Then if you are with O2 bill pay go here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055254749
    for the settings to use.

You have to wait for the M symbol beside the battery indicator to turn green when your in SwirlyMMS for it to work.

Works for me. You will also have to install two other packages from installer to view received mms. MobileFinder and MobilePreview. Make sure you install Finder first and the one by Ste not by iClarified as for some reason Preview doesn't recognise it.

I am at 1.1.4 and this works for me but you must have the latest version.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31 philip_tyrrell@

    Right.

To view your incoming mms you need to install MobileFinder and MobilePreview. Install Finder first and it must be the one by Ste the other one doesn't work.

I'm on meteor and the above settings worked perfectly for sending mms' but I'm having trouble receiving them. I have finder and preview installed but I'm not even getting the fetch text when I should be receiving a message. Is there something I'm missing? Do I need to have swirly open to receive an mms? Is the fetch text sent to my regular SMS invis or to swirly? Thanks for the help!

Make sure you have the latest version of Swirly installed. Version 3.7 is the only one that can receive messages here. There was a problem in all earlier versions with receiving in Ireland.

When you receive a message your phone beeps then you open Swirly and you will see the fetch button.
To view the message you then nee to open Preview and push the open button. Finder will open and you need to push the ~ button on the top right. Go into Media, then MMSFiles then you should see the MMS messages. Push the one you want to open.
