Logo Font (aka typeface) Legal?

Hi folks, I'm currently designing a logo for my company. The problem is I'm not sure if I can legally use a font for it without paying a licence. AFAIK if I modify or try resell a particular font then it's illegal, but what of just plain use of a font in a business logo? Thoughts?

check the licence agreements, do a search for the typeface and try to find the foundry that released it.
