OK there is a reason for asking this question, some of you might know it already. (dont spoil it for the rest! :))

Basically if money was irrelevent or of no object (i.e. you didnt need it or you had enough from e.g. inheritance. The point being that whatever you chose, be it working or travelling or dossing, you are not doing it for the monetary reward), what would you be doing with your life? Give some reasons why.

When answering, state what you currently work at etc.

For me I would be making movies. I studied film making in college when i first left school but for most, its a tough industry to make a good living from and it takes years before people get their "break".
In reality, I work in Finance.

I'm a project manager/developer. i'm destroying my soul week by week. If money wasnt a concern I would play music for a living and woulds aspire to play in a different city every night. I'd buy a plane with Gracehopper emblazoned on the side.

I'd be living in the country (say West Cork/Kerry, or the Yorkshire Dales or the Lake District) and writing books. Every now and then I'd travel to a big city in my helicopter to play high stakes poker. Oh and I'd also keep myself warm at night by burning a big pile of €50 notes, and would contribute 100 Billion per year to charity.

Dedicate myself to my beloved Porn sites. Would probably go back to college too. Not particularly to learn anything new , just as a break really, take a year out of he rat race and decide what to do with my life. Again.

As an aside, If you had kids, would you be providing a good example by lounging around the house all day? not really working at anything? Im going to be a daddy soon, does having a regular job set a good example to the young uns?

This was written by a Software engineer who thinks he's overdue a change in any case.

ps. Are you now financially independant Faceman?

Nothing. It would be nice to do nothing. Sleep.
Then I would stockpile whores I think. Plus, live in the Alps and ski for the rest of my life.

I too would make a movie. I've a few written already, so it'd be the next logical step. Financing, especially in this country, is next to impossible, and without financing, you've no movie.

I do work in television so if money was not relevent then I wouldnt probably change much, I'd expect the topic of the material we make would change for the better, but I'd still be doing the same job.

I currently work as an editor for community television, I dont get paid anything amazing, standard enough wage, but I love my job, and I have already used my position to get funding to produce my own programme in june/july. So I am getting what I want out of this job thats not monetary.

peeps, just to clarify, i wasnt asking if you were rich what would you do, im asking what would you do if money wasnt a concern. Therefore you cant say "fly me helicopter" or "buy an island" etc because that would imply you were rich first and is more a dream etc.

Maybe im phrasing it wrong but essentially what you answer on some level illustrates what you should actually be doing with your life to make you happiest. (well according to some psychologist i was yapping to!)

Therefore so far, only Blitzkrieg and ND 1978 are getting the most out of their lives!

as much as I'd love that to be true...I love my job, but my health and social life are not the greatest so it all balances out sort of in the end.
