Dog Fencing - is 4ft high enough??

Wonder if anyone can give me some advice here.

We are getting a dog soon but want to have the accommodation ready first! Currently we have a 4 foot wooden fence around the garden. Would this be enough to keep in a dog? The dog would be medium sized - probably a springer or collie.

We are in a sheep area so it is very important that he/she stays confined to the garden when not out for walks etc...Also, we don't really believe in shock collars or tethering so we need to make sure our fencing is good enough.

Four foot should be sufficient, but you would really need to see the dogs size before judging, my collie likes to sit on top of her kennel on sunny dasy:rolleyes:, and would be able to jump a four foot fence from the kennel - collies are a clever dog. Is erecting a whole new fence going to be viable? if not you need to go for a smaller breed if you are unsure, especially if you are going to get a pup.
