sounded sarcastic. thick black socks are required to prevent blisters. i hardly think primark socks (5 for £2.00) would do the job.

i was in millets (outdoor shop) wasnt much there. ive just ordered online this second some thermal black socks which look quite thick. ebay so it was pretty cheap. 13.45 for 12

sorry for sounding sarcastic. I didnt notice you said they need to be thick, just assumed any plain black ones would do. Primark isnt going to to it then. Just try any outdoor specialist shops

    Hey all,

I’ve just applied for campaign 14 today and I know the age requirements and I understand that to be appointed you must be 18 by September but I am very worried that my age will have a very negative impact on my chances of making it into the merit pool. Even if I do make it this far no way would the Chief Constable select me for appointment as I am too young. . Still foing my A-Levels! Does anyone know of any other 18 year olds who have made it slected from the merit pool so far?

yea. . sorry for the mistakes above but should have previewed that message first. . im sure you get the message anyway:)

Nobody can discriminate based on age. That's illegal. Once you meet the age requirements, you meet the age requirements. There was one young guy I know of who turned 19 when he was in training and was out on the streets while still a teenager.

Thanks psni, seems to be working now for some reason!

As the subject of age, no an organisation like the psni definitely would not discriminate on any grounds.
There is a girl starting training this intake is 19 so age isnt a barrier in any way.

I was 18 going through the last campaign and I dont think my age put my chances down, i just didnt score highly enough at the AC. Like psni said if you meet it then you meet it, the tests will decide if you make it to the merit list.

    Hey PSNI,

Is it ok to phone recruitment and vetting for your status? I'm of the understanding that the letters sent out recently indicated not to phone Appointments for any info. This would lead me to believe that its ok to phone vetting?

    Do you know any different?

Tricky one. They're not set up to deal with a whole lot of incoming calls. If you call, you're only adding to their workload and they are getting narky because it's slowing them down. Sure, you can call them, but expect a frosty reception.

    Thanks PSNI

Once your in the merit pool and have passed all the relevant stages do you stay in the pool until a place is offered? I've a good merit pool no. just into the 300's and from a RC background.

May just leave it another week to find out more info.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Help & Feedback Category Moderators Posts: 9,893 CMod ✭✭✭✭Shield

Yes. You either get a merit pool number high enough to be offered a place, or you get flushed along with the other unsuccessfuls.

With your community background and merit pool number, I'd be feeling good.

    ;)

Psni i applied again today, should i assume i have been flushed with the rest for this campaign at this point? I got merit pool letter last week and havent been told im unsuccessful. Not too bothered just wondering what the situation is.... campaign 14 all the way :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 199 ✭✭MartinC2006

Only 50-60 people out of the required 440 have started training out of this campaign.

Why at this very early stage would you assume it’s all over?

Good luck for 14 if 13 doesn’t work out for you!

    Martin.

No vetting or medical. i thought you would have to have been vetted by this time to be in with a shout. Suppose it is early days though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 199 ✭✭MartinC2006

    Yes, it is very early.

As I recall you have quite a high (700-800?) merit pool placing? That being the case it will very much depend on what side of the 50/50 devide you fall into. If it's Non RC I think you know it's all over, if it's RC then your still very much in with a chance.

Have you had word what side of pool you'll be on?

    Martin.

just had a wee look on consentia website out of curiosity and had a look at the payscale. its increased. as trainee its 21534(+2800 allowance), ie 24334. after completion of training this goes up to 24039 (+2800 allowance) ie 26839. almost 27000 when you finish training. not too bad at all. not very many jobs offer the career and financial security the psni can.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

Well I am from a RC background. Got the letter last week saying i had been added to a merit list etc same as everyone else got.

What do you mean by what side of the pool? oh and yes merit number was up round there, very high.

Noticed that myself, pay is very good in the psni. I think if it was alot less I would still be just as keen to join, the cash is a bonus!! Its deserved though as they put themselves at high risk and serve the community more than any other job probably

    Hi everybody,

Just registered on the forum here and have a very quick question. I am due to get married in October of this year so will be unavailable for a few weeks round this time.

Even if I got that far in the process (!) does anyone have a rough idea if this would be a problem as far as the selection/assessments goes?

I would only apply if I knew I could devote 100% of time to it!

    Thanks very much.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 199 ✭✭MartinC2006

    Goodcopbadcop,

If you fall into the RC background then you are as good as in my opinion.

On this board we have a confirmed person in the high 700's that has been recruited from the same background so there’s no reason you won’t unless you’re even higher than this. Fail the medical or fail the vetting.

    Keep the chin up!

    Martin.
