What's a "weak cross cum shot" in footballing terms?

Was reading the Irish Times online:
    http://www.ireland.com/sports/soccer/2008/0304/1204240539726.html

"Benzema got away and released Clerc but the move broke down when he delivered a weak cross cum shot into the area."

I lol'd - unless this is a footballing term?

:D It is indeed a football term, you dirty boy. As in a cross that could be a shot or vice versa. Filth, I tells ya

    Its sorta....

He went to cross the ball but instead it ended up as a weak shot on goal instead of a cross.

Oh the Times were using Latin... volenti non fit injuria/compos mentis sort of stuff.

Not really a footballing term then but rather a strange (in my opinion) decision to use one of the Classic languages.

Here's the Latin definition of "cum" by the way:

Why were you reading the Ancient Roman version?

Because the word cum in that context originates from Latin:
    http://www.google.ie/search?q=define%3A+cum&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

edit: oh, do you mean reading the Ancient Roman version of the Irish Times? Nope - just the normal online one...

 Are you new to football, then? It's as old a football term as "obviously".

Don't google image search it with safe search turned off.

Nope - just in my 10+ years of reading newspapers have never come across the term (nor have I heard it being used, nothing came up on a Google search either).

...ah I see Google had taken out the word "cum" when searching.

Plenty of other people confused about this term (is it an archaic term?)

They use 'cum' to replace 'slash' in a bodily-function mixup akin to the way they use 'ironically' to mean 'coincidentally'.

What a disappointment this thread is :D Great title though.

Also, in house/apartment rental/sales they often write:

    'dining room cum kitchen'

An American friend remarked to me 'WTF is a cum kitchen?! Do they even know what cum is? :p

Just say 'Kordell Stewart' to them. If they look confused, follow up by saying 'slash'.

For the Yanks on board who don't know what 'cum' is.

Maybe it should be a dash, a slash is when you take a piss. :D

The Americans should actually use the Latin "cum" more then we do:

Their university degrees are awarded with the distinctions of
"summa cum laude", "magna cum laude" or "cum laude" instead of our system of "firsts" or "2.1" etc.

The context of the words just put me off that's all - didn't expect to see the Latin mixed in with the English.

If you watched followed football for any length of time I can't believe that you've never come (sorry for the pun:D) across it before.

It usually involves a sh1t player trying to cross the ball but it ends up going straight in the goalies hands and goes nowhere near the forward. In more comical cir-cum-stances it can result in a goal.

It's basically an angry whimp trying to make a porn flcik.

Anyway, I'm more worried that americans can graduate as a summer cum lord

Is he the lad who used to be quarterback for the Steelers?

    The very one.
Pittsburgh Steeler radio announcer Myron Cope gave Stewart the nickname "Slash" due to his abilities as a utility player willing to play other positions such as running back/wide receiver/punter.
