usb drive 500gig cannot delete any files ?

I have a problem with my external drive 500gig usb.i left it plugged in to the pc ,so i turned on the pc,it went thru chkdsk mode, it found 3or 4 cross linked files,so it went thru them,fixed them ,so now drive working ok, i can load mp3s,podcasts etc.BUT it will not allow me to delete any file,large or small.IS there any way to fix this?SO ive got hundreds of podcasts,diggnation,dltv, which i cannot delete.COULD i just format the drive, it just has mp3s,or gamedemos?
I dont need to recover any data,its just at this rate it,ll be full of data,which cant be deleted.IS there any program i can download that will fix it.I usually disconnect it from usb ,then shutdown pc,but i forgot to do this yesterday.COULD its fat be messed up,i think its ntfs format.
IF i try and delete sumthin it says cannot find file location,path even though all the filesare visible.
