How long out after key-hole surgery?

    I've missed much of this season with a knee injury which turned out to be a small tear in my cartilage.

    My operation is coming up and I'm just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and how long it took to get back into football.

    Obviously, I'm going on the specialist's advice but I'm just looking for some anicdotal info on top of that.

    I imagine it depends on what surgery your getting. My brother had key-hole surgery over christmas and is only now starting to run again. However he had a lot of work done.

    Another guy who was in for just half of what my brother was getting done was going straight into physio within a couple of days.

    I have a large/very rare osteochondral defect in my knee and last week had 3 screws inserted to hold the remainder of the cartilage in place. If it heals well I may play football again, if not they will probably do another operation, possibly bone grafting which was originally planned. The pain was terrible afterwards and I couldn't move at all for 24 hours. I thought the physiotherapist was joking when she asked me to lift my leg up. But she said I could be playing again within 5 months. This after the doctors in Australia told me it's unlikely I'd ever be able to play any contact sport again! Walking on crutches for the time being.
