Am i the only person why wants, to give people who stand on escalators a good kick up the arse.
I mostly notice on Saturdays/Sundays how poeple race around in their cars as if the world is about to end. I then get to the shopping center to be faced by people who walk at a slooooow 1mph and look like zombies when on the escalators. Of course i get looks of disgust when i say excuse me as i pass. Is it a case of Monkey See,Monkey Do.

Use the stairs and leave them standing on the escalator maybe?
I started standing on escalators and blocking the way when I realised it pissed some people off so much.
This can probably be moved to AH and I can merge it with the dozen or so copies of it.

I think the practice of standing on the right hand side hasn't quite made it to these shores yet. I get that boiling, going to explode feeling too. You are not alone my friend.

Some people have tried, but foolishly - we should stand on the left.

An escalator goes at a certain speed, there is no need to race up or down one. Just relax and enjoy the trip.

God gave me legs and they also move at a certain speed also.

The whole point of escalators is that they do the walking for you. As mentioned, use the stairs if you're in a rush. I like to stand in the middle of my step so no one can get past :D

I don't mind people standing on escalators as long as they leave room for people to get past. What I really hate is when people stand at the top/bottom of the escalator looking for something in their bag blocking the way. What the hell do you need that you can't look for on the escalator?

I also hate when people who are clearly scared of escalators spend ages trying to get on it and again block the way. Use the stairs ffs! My best friend hates escalators so she uses the stairs, it works out well!

Then use the stairs and stop complaining.

If somebody politely asks to get by, I'll move. If I hear so much as a disapproving tut from behind, I stay right where I am (or accidently slip back on my 'dody' leg to step on their toes. Damned dodgy leg, 'tis why I can't walk up the escalator.)

There can't be many escalators in Galway...

Anyways, I hate people who rush up/down escalators, as is pointed out, escalators do the moving for you.

Ah the old dodgy leg routine. I do enjoy using it on the escalator. In Galway on Saturday some guy in his 20s started berating me for not walking up the flat escalator in Dunnes. I proceeded to grasp both sides and refused to budge. He tried to push past and I beagan to groan. An old war injury I told him, to which he repleid "you can't be more than 23. What war were you in?" I told him my story of a childhood spend living in La Bezhaktinsatan. Brought a tear to my eye.

They don't move quickly down the escalators to use their precious time to make a topic about it on boards.ie :p

Ah travelators are a different story! I can't stay still on them, I have to walk. Although I got stuck behind a wagon today who stopped her buggy at the top of that one in Dunnes.

But if someone tried to push past me like that and gave out there's no way I'd be budging. If he wanted to walk could he not have gone out into the shopping centre and used the stairs?

I find if I start walking on them I end up going far too fast and come to a screeching halt at the bottom barely staying up or I grab on at the end to steady myself and end up hurting my self.

I would have galdly moved if he had been polite, but I was tired, carrying a number of bags and had a terrible migraine. All I wanted was to be left alone.

Don't mind the standing on escalators, as long as they're to one side. But standing on travelators?! C'mon people move it!! :D

I have a me on a escalator phobia. I once panicked so much I froze and didn't step off.
The escalator came to a sudden shuddering halt and I sent a group of loud american tourists behind me flying.
    It was carnage.

For your own safety OP Chillax.

You try standing on the left on an escalator on the London Underground!
If it's rush hour, they'll kill you.

Stairs are for walking , escalators are for standing , if you tried to push past me , i'd kill you there and then.

Is there no escalator etiquette in Ireland? You'd get your head bashed here, or more likely run over, if you stood still here on the left hand side!

A few strange observations I've noticed regarding escalators, a lot of the non-movers decide to walk about 4-5 steps from the top and not when it reaches the top, why is that? Then there are the morons who decide to stop at the exit of the escalator thus blocking others from getting off, wtf is that all about!

The worst is people stopping to check if someone is still with them at the top of the escalator or stopping for any other reason. When i used to work in a well known department store on Dublin, some moron manager thought it would be a good idea to have someone standing about 6 feet from the top of an escalator and give out free samples of perfume and have a nice crowd build up at the top of an escalator. The levels of stupidity that people display have ceased to amaze me now though.
