Cheers Regan. That's all networks sorted now. Might put a new thread for it on the main page (when I tweak it a bit with regards to the status messages it returns).

basquille there is a tweak that allows you to install anything compatible with 1.1.3, under tweaks 1.1.4, its a compatibility patch, i have reinstalled all my apps using it, you need to install the patch foe every app and then uninstall and so on, its a bit more time consuming but it works
Cheers Amanda. Sounds a bit time consuming though alright. Is there much need to update to 1.1.4? Haven't seen any real advantages so far. Odds are Apple may release another firmware for their SDK to run on in a week's time! :D

Well.. mine still work. But what I do is import the MP3 into iTunes, right click on it in the Library and click 'Convert To AAC'. Find the AAC (will have the extension M4A) and rename is M4R. Double-click it and iTunes will import it into it's ringtones area and it'll show up on your next sync with iTunes.

I just can't bring myself to read through 4000 posts! Will someone be kind enough to tell me is it easy enough to unlock an iPhone?
And where would I get one cheapest in the US?

Yeah, it's very easy now. It's a 5 minute job and can be done via software.

They're fixed price more or less everywhere in the States - €399 for 8GB, €499 for 16GB.

Is getting one from the US about the cheapest way to get one? Would you have to sign up for a 18 month contract when getting one there as well?

Hi, I have an unlocked 1.1.1 iphone, is there anyway I can upgrade to 1.1.4 and re-unlock it? Will it function 100%. I used to be up to date on all of this stuff(i've unlocked 3 iphone but all were 1.1.1) but have been very busy in the last few months.

Upgrade to 1.1.4 (Better still restore to 1.1.4)
    Then run ZiPhone 2.5
    Its that easy now.

Ok, how do i restore to 1.1.4? I think I disabled itunes from downloading firmware updates. Will I lose all my apps I installed through installer?
    Cheers.

Hi, i got my new 16gb iphone from newry yesterday and its great. But im having a very annoying problem with my phonebook. I have over 300 contacts and there are all in the standard format, eg 0860000000 or 0416500000

But it seems the phone is having trouble assigning a callers number with my phonebook. A person from my phonebook rings me and it just comes up as +353860000000 and it dosnt show their name, picture etc

Does anyone know a way around this? - i really dont want to have to change all my number to +353 ...

Im running 1.13 by the way

The states is the cheapest place to get one. I bought mine in the apple store in new york and was never asked to sign a contract, they just give you the phone.
Right now iphones are simple to unlock however a new firmware is being released next week which means that the current unlocks probably wont work. If you buy the phone with the new firmware on it you'll have to wait for someone to figure out a new unlock.

I only had to what 2 weeks when i bought mine but theres a chance you'll be waiting months.

Anyone on Vodafone or Meteor give my app above a shot? It's working on O2 alright.

But no ways of testing on Vodafone or Meteor. Just login as yourself and send a message to yourself. Easiest way to do it. Let me know if you recieve it please and if not, do you get an error code or message.

    Thanks in advance.

This works great with wifi but has anyone tried using it over GPRS. Im trying with vodafone live set up on my iphone and it keeps saying 'error: message not sent'

Nice one. I'm getting mine tomorrow morning when my mother flys back from Florida. :D

Just for dummies like me, does this mean all I need to do is, open the box, plug it into the computer, open itunes, upgrade it to 1.1.4 when it asks. Close itunes, open Ziphone and it'll jailbreak, and unlock it for me. So when it's finished I just put in my Vodafone Sim, and I'm away??

This sounds too good to be true. :D:D:D

I was getting ready for a full day trying to unlock the bloody thing!

That's odd - it should work the same as long as you've a working connection.. will look into it anyways!

Oh.. and i'll be releasing a version tomorrow where you'll only need to login once. Then you can bookmark the page (or better yet, add it to your home screen) and just send your message without the need to login again.

I'll make a new thread for it tomorrow on the main 'Mobiles / PDA' board so we don't keep posting problems, suggestions updates (etc.) here among 4375 other posts! :D

Oh.. and many thanks to Sam Vines for letting me use his script (which actually sends the texts).. i'm simply the designer of the page.

My younger brother has a 8GB 1.1.2 unlocked iphone and has installed a few applications too many. On his home screen he has run out of space for all the icons and some are now not available. He didn't have summerboard (etc) installed beforehand so no multiple home screen scrolling for him. He tried to do a reset from the phone's Settings menu. This resulting in simply breaking a few of the applications that he installed while leaving their icons on his home screen. He does not have access to installer.app, so he can't do any management.

    Will this work?
I read somewhere online that someone simply connected their phone to their PC, and clicked on the "update" button from within iTunes, to upgrade firmware to 1.1.3. I assume after this runs, the phone will be fully locked and unusable with our Vodafone SIM. Then simply use Ziphone 2.4 and click the "one click" solution to jailbreak, activate and unlock the phone again (with 1.1.3 on it). If we did this would it work, or is there a chance that we could brick this phone. Basically is this, or is there a fool proof plan to get us back to the point where can manage our applications and also use our Vodafone (or any Irish) SIM card, without bricking the phone.

Also if you do brick an iphone, is there really no way to get it back working again? There are so many hacks available for this device, I find it hard to believe that it can be turned in to a paper weight through software modification.

    Cheers

happened to me also, do exactly as you said. I have just restored to 1.1.4 and used the new Ziphone. All working happy days

OK just to verify, I click "Restore" in iTunes not "Upgrade" (to 1.1.3), and this will restore the phone to 1.1.4. Then using Ziphone (2.5, as I see it was recently released), as I have described above, all should work yeah?

Sorry for posting practically the same thing, but this is his 21st present and I don't want to put him out of a new phone.

Also how long does the process take? and finally, are there any "Advanced" checkboxes that I need to tick in Ziphone or is it simply click that "one click does all" button.

    Cheers ;)

If you are using Ziphone and the phone is 4.6BL ie 1.1.2 or 1.1.3 out of the box using the one click solution will also downgrade your bootloader to 3.9 this is risky and should not be done unless you understand the risk of bricking the phone

The safe method is to click the advanced option and select Activate Jailbreak and Unlock this will not touch the bootloader.

If you want 1.1.3 you need to download it first clicking restore in itunes will not get you 1.1.3

Download it and hold the shift key and then click update is fine for 1.1.3 then close itunes click advanced and select activate jailbreak and unlock

And then click start process and it will do it

It didn't bother me at first, but I'm starting to notice more and more how the iphone just doesn't seem to be a phone, but more of a glorified ipod/pda with the abillity to make calls!!

Apple really need to get their act together when it comes to Iphone 2.0.

Has anyone managed to get MMS working on it? Even that swirlymms program doesn't allow for the thing to receive mms msgs. That's just crazy, what were they thinking (or not) when they decided to add a camera to the iphone

When I tried swirly, after adding meteor settings, it no longer stays open. Just crashes after opening! Here's hoping the SDK brings some good news - that's if it's not a beta - which is what the iphone 1.0 seems to be :D

    Oh well.

The unlock might have been undone when you updated. Have you tried to unlock with ziphones method. http://www.downloadziphone.org/
