ive never actually used the edge on the iphone, would using an app like that cost much?
Well, EDGE is charged for data usage.

Think O2 are charging €7.50 for 250MB (or 256000 KB). But bear in mind, sending an actual text message via this webpage will probably use max of about 5 - 10KB. So think about how many you can send for €7.50! ;)

And with an application on the phone, it'll be even less than that. Could be as low as 1K - 2K.

Unsure of Meteor's data charges but i'm sure it would.

its kind of ironic that the only provider that do a data bundle on payg(3) are the only one not supported for the iphone

its 2 cent per kb , so say max of 6-8 cent per text?

I currently have a jailbroken 1.1.2 iphone with 4.6 bootloader working using a stealthsim. Its working ok but now and again the stealthsim slips off the sim and I get loss of phone signal.

Does anyone know an easy way for me to software unlock the phone and end up with 1.1.2 software again?

I'm also afraid that if I try to software unlock the phone it'll wipe all my contacts which I had to manually put into the phone cause of problems synching with outlook, gmail and yahoo contacts. Is there a way to back up the contacts info (from the iphone) before doing anything like that.

Can SMS also be backed up or transferred to the SIM?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You dont want to update the phone so just use the 1.1.2-1.1.3 G unlock in the installer take out the stealthsim and thats it

If you sync your phone with itunes it will store your contacts and messages

If it asks you to update just say no

ZiPhone 2.5 (1.1.4) is to be released in the next few minutes..

not sure if this has been asked already....

if i buy an iphone in the states, take it home, unlock it and stick in a vodafone SIM, and say i use itunes to update it to the next firmware version when it comes out, the phone will need to be unlocked again right???

if i do the same thing, except use an O2 SIM, and update it it via itunes, will it need to be unlocked again each time, considering O2 are the chosen carrier in ireland. Does that even make a difference???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,201 ✭✭✭✭Basq

No.. don't think it'll make a difference Gryzor.

Oh.. and Engadget reports v1.1.4 firmware can now be jail-breaked using iNdependence, ZiPhone or EVEN iTunes.

The last one is by far the most interesting apparently the iphone dev team have succeeded in running their own signed firmware

Which means that they can take the apple firmware remove all the security and release an open unlocked firmware version which you can just update to via itunes using the SHIFT key or OPTION key. No jailbreaking activating or unlocking just update to dev team firmware and the phone works.

Apparently this is done but they are waiting for the SDK to be released before they release this so Apple can not close the exploit.

That's mad alright cdebru. In other news, there's rumours abound that applications designed by the SDK will only be downloadable via iTunes meaning Apple will have full control over what's available via the SDK. Of course, this is all speculation and no doubt the iPhoneDev team or somewhere similar will find a way around it.

Oh.. and i've updated my O2 WebText web-app to include some basic validation and implemented in Gr1F's request of the ability to CC the message to yourself. Will look into the Meteor / Vodafone implementation but if it's a lot of work, I'll wait for the possibility of designing a more stable and full-featured application for the phone itself when the SDK is released.

    Screenshot below:
    snap201817wd5.jpg

Available to use here! And before I forget, I'd like to thank Donal O Connor (WebMonkey) for letting my app use his O2 script. Much appreciated!

OK, so I'll have Vodafone and Meteor implemented later tonight hopefully... or early tomorrow.

    Watch this space!

PS - not sure whether I should make a new thread for this. Should I? Any opinions?

EDIT: It'll be down while I work on implementing in other operators. I'm only on O2 so gonna need one or two volunteers on Meteor and Vodafone when I reckon it's operational.

EDIT 2: Back online now. Working with O2 but unsure of Vodafone and Meteor. Testing will be required.

Hi, i have a Jail broken iPhone on 1.1.3 just a 2 quick questions:
How do i upgrade safely to 1.1.4 and then jailbreak it.
A good explanation would be highly appreciated.
I am looking for a quick way to send music over and i have found what folder all the songs are stored in but they are all renamed eg. LOAU JHKI and stuff like that... should i just continue using iTuens or should i just rename my songs to other four letter names?
    Thanks in advanced,

Thanks CD, I'll give that a shot. Is there any benefit to upgrading to 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 yet? What are the extra add ons?

Anyone on Vodafone or Meteor give my app above a shot? It's working on O2 alright.

But no ways of testing on Vodafone or Meteor. Just login as yourself and send a message to yourself. Easiest way to do it. Let me know if you recieve it please and if not, do you get an error code or message.

    Thanks in advance.

can confirm this works......everything works perfectly.

Independence beta5 left youtube and maps location out of order, so after doing that yesterday i just stuck it into DFU mode, restored to 1.1.4 and used ZiPhone.

For the record i originally unlocked with IPSF on firmware 1.0.2

Hey everyone, I'm kinda new but i have a jail broken 1.1.3 and some questions:
How can i safely upgrade to 1.1.4 and then unlock, activate and jailbreak again.
Is there an easier way to put music on to the iPhone like using SSH.. cos i found the folder where the music is stored but all the music files are renamed to four letter names eg. LOUA... should i rename my music files to four letter names and try it or should i just use iTunes.
    Thanks in advanced,

I know people are saying theres nothing new with 1.1.4 but I just noticed something when I upgraded my iPod Touch to 1.1.4:
    > when your iPod is in sleep mode and you press the home button it brings up the unlock screen
    > If you press the home key twice it brings up music controls
    > the Sleep/wake button now becomes a play/pause button.

I know this relates to the iPod touch but I presume the same feature is on the iPhone?

Oh and sorry if this was actually introduced with an older update but as I said I only just noticed it!

Cheers Mr Magoo. Thanks for letting me know. Did it just send you back how many texts you've left underneath it? That was just for testing purposes anyways. Will build in an appropriate message when I'm confirmed all 3 networks are tested.

All that's left to confirm now is Vodafone. Anyone on Vodafone give it a shot and let me know if it works.

    Thanks in advance.

basquille there is a tweak that allows you to install anything compatible with 1.1.3, under tweaks 1.1.4, its a compatibility patch, i have reinstalled all my apps using it, you need to install the patch foe every app and then uninstall and so on, its a bit more time consuming but it works
