I only applied 3 weeks ago, have my interview next monday.
Besides knowledge of ranks and overseas service what other info is good to have going into it. Will they ask what i know about day to day army life etc??
I have good references from a CS and a BQ hopefully. Will they be a good advantage, or is it more about how you come over on the day.
cheers for any help, always wanted to do this so fiongers crossed!:)

yes know all about day to day procedure in army what u will be doing during Recruit training, what are the defence forces roles ie cash transport, what overseas missions we are on, what is the size of the army etc, mention you play alot of sport that will go down well, they will stay fairly close to the examples they give out on the notification, i found, so think up a few answers before hand so you dont stall in the interview...

17 years. what has that got to do with anything?

And YES - I am taking the piss. It's called humour - something you should bring lots of with you, and the knowledge of when to use it, and not use it.

I have met and spoken to many PDF lads (mostly the Older Generation) and I have never once heard the Term Squaddie used by them.(WHen refering to themselves or their PDF comrades)

In other words, That is probably British exclusive.

how long does a garda clearence take to come back. Is it done before you are called for interview if you send it in with your initial application?
Also do pending cases show up on it? Does any record, even a soft one stop you from being accepted?
Havnt got one thankfully but couple of people iv applied with have a record for silly things and one has a pending charge yet to come up. in court
    Anyone know anything about this?

just ring up the closest manpower office and ask them to send you out the forms.Dont know about the interview but they will probably ask you about everything that you put on the forms work experience, sports etc.Wear a suit or shirt and tie and as for the training while im not in the army id start the push ups and sit ups now cause the training is hard

Ring the relevant brigade's manpower office and ask for a form
They will send you out a aplication form along with a list of requirments and tips on how train for your fitness test.

Two Polish nationals have just completed their training with the Navy very recently so it shouldn't be a problem.

As far as I know he's joining the Military. He went for his interview & his medical before Christmas and passed those grand but he failed his fitness test. They rang him up in early January and told him he could try again and he passed in the middle of January and he hasn't heard anything since then regarding when he'll be starting. Should he ring them up and see what's going on?

Thanks for the reply btw :D

well diferent brigades start recruit training at different times i would imagine i know southern is around july, your best bet is to ring up no harm in asking i supose, i asked my self and there was no problem.

do you mind saying how he failed his fitness? im curios i have mine coming up soon, did he prepare/practice for it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71 ✭✭Pastel_Princess

That's great, I'll tell him to give them a ring so :)

He failed on the running part by about a minute! He was training on the treadmill for that at least twice a day but for his next try at it he went out and ran on the track which he said helped him a lot. He was lifting weights and swimming too just to get generally fit.

Hope you pass your fitness test, good luck! :D
