    It's in Venice (never been there, but hopefully next yr..).

    I can't really remember why it has the name. Its something to do with it being the last thing you see when leaving Venice???...

    Venice is correct.

    It connect the court of the Doge's Palace to the prison where the executions took place. Hence the sighs as you crossed the bridge.

    prisoners use to be brought over the bridge to be executed and it was the last thing they saw so they saw to sigh going over it
