    Hey,

So i just got a new laptop but i dont like the internal speakers in it. Now i have a nice set of Creative surround sound ones for my desktop but without going and buying a new set of speakers for my laptop i was wondering is there anyway of using these speakers on my laptop?
Now they're 5.1 surround which presumes i need a 5.1sound card in my lappy which i don't have. Anyway around this no?

    Cheers

You should be able to get a usb or pcmcia 5.1 card for the laptop.

you can connect the headphone jack of the laptop to the line in of the sound card, this will give stereo or upmixed stereo with the creative mixer option. Or connect directly to the speakers front speaker connection.

for true 5.1 from the laptop, the laptop will need some sort of digital audio out, which only some laptops have, plus the pc will need digial in on the sound card (or speakers)

you can get sound cards for laptops that give you 5.1 analog output which could connect directly to the inputs of your speakers

most new laptops use express card slots and not pcmcia, so you'd need to check what your buying will work with your laptop, usb should be fine though
