Its up to yourself to keep your head about you when you're at the till.

There a ridiculous price aswell.Den again , the fact that there "not for girls" would affect profitability.Only half the market......

I remember when this was all green fields

There really should be some sort of link between After Hours and Joe Duffy so these outrages can be brought to the internetless masses !

ROFL, I'd be surprised if this doesn't already exist.

    Chocolate bars = 30p
    Chips = 50p for a small, 55p for a large.

    After that...things got mad

Centra tried to charge me for a ham roll with 4 fillings when I only had 3? He tried to tell me that the pre-mixed tuna and sweetcorn was counted as meat plus one filling? I had tuna, lettuce, cheese and onion. They did not have tuna without the corn...!

    You had 4 fillings.

Chips, sausage and a can - £1.50 lunch time special from Macari's. Those were the day.

I left everything at the till and walked out....t'was a few years back....was I wrong?

You should have told them you only wanted tuna so then they had to pick it out :D

Not sure if they specifically do that but you always see multipacks for 2 euro. In fact, yesterday I saw a host of bargins in there. A Quattro razor for 2 euro....and those fancy emerald bars? They cost 1.40 a piece in Dunnes. 4 or 5 for 2 euro in there.

This the 2euro store up near Game?

Ah the amount of insipidly coloures Jelly beans I've bought there.
Then meeting Nora on the way out.

In my day, you could get a whoppa bar for 5p, and it'd stick in your teeth so you'd be chewing it for a couple of days = value for money

1.05 for a lion bar is f*ckin ridiculous...I blame the bears, or the immigants

Just bought one there on Harold Cross road for 85 cent, still a rip off for a bar of chocolate but a nice bit cheaper than €1.05!!

The price of a bar of chocolate in any shop now is absolutely stupid. And they seem to go up every now and then for no real reason at all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,346 ✭✭✭KTRIC

Back in my day they were 32p !!! Why are they now over double the price ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,070 ✭✭✭ScouseMouse

Yes, inflation is rampant and it is affecting shops big time. In the last three months, all the chocolate suppliers have increased their prices plus minimum wage went up about three weeks ago and thats only a drop in the ocean. HOWEVER, 1.05 still seems a bit steep.

Increased chocolate prices might stop those overweight kids from stuffing their faces though.

Shop prices are getting worse than vending machine prices. Just think €2.50 for a 500ml bottle of Coke.

Chocolate bars will forever be 36p in my mind.

I'd love to go into the local Spar, put a twix on the counter, 32p (actual Irish money) beside it and walk out.

You people amaze me. Ever think that the reason they have gone up is because the have gone up at the wholesale distributor? Why? Because the price of milk and wheat have gone up. Small shops cannot buy in bulk like Tesco and Dunnes and therefore they do not get the same deals as those that buy in bulk.

The days of the small corner shop are over. Get used to it.

Jesus.. how much is a Cornetto now ? 70 or 80 euro ? They were the most expensive ice creams when I was kid( I am aware a Lion bar is not an ice cream).
If it was too expensive, don't pay, or maybe.. haggle ?
Saw a guy once ask for a discount on a pair of shoes cause "Sure I'm buying two".. as in one pair of shoes.. they gave him a discount and all ! Ballsy.

The reason for the price increases is GREED! Greedy wholesalers Greedy shopkeepers etc. As long as mug punters pay the rip off prices, the greedy shopkeepers will keep putting prices UP.
Even with wheat prices, cocoa prices and whatever else going up there's no justification in charging 1.05 euro for a bar of chocolate. Even with shopkeepers whingeing about having to pay minimum wage to staff, they are still making BIG profits.
Lets face it. If it wasn't worth there while they wouldn't be doing it!

I was also shocked when charged this much for a doughnut in Centra!! Madness!!! Never again I tells ya! Still, on the bright side, maybe these increasing prices will mean people buy less junk food and become healthier??
