I was charged €1.05 for a Lion Bar today. I was shocked at the price, I can remember them at 50p or less.
I was so surprised that I even asked the staff member sering me about it.
I am never buying another Lion Bar.

Where did you buy it? Not so long ago in Centra I was charged the same price for one of the Dairy Milk range. Couldn't believe it.

The retail price of a Lion Bar has gone up recently so the retailers will pass this on plus something for themselves.

€1.05 is a bit much though.

It costs about 60cent including VAT to buy retail.

It was Centra. Must be a store-wide policy.

    Name and shame!

Was it in an airport or on a train, in a museum, or any other place that hikes the price?

Think they're around 80c in the shops near me.

Problem here is that you BOUGHT it. In more ways than one.

Was once charged 2.40 for a half litre of lucozade sport. I shook my head and left on the chocolate bars on the counter.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

It's cheaper to buy most things in the supermarket. My local shop sells all chocolate bars for 90c. A small soft drink is €1.45 in Centra. A 2litre bottle of the same drink is €1.58 in tesco.

    Supermarkets ftw!

Learn the simple aspect of spelling and punctuating a simple sentence in English and you too might get a job!

I've always found centra to be a rip off.The centra i go for lunch recently changed to a spar and if i get a nice big unhealthy lunch i save about a euro over centra:D:D

Centra tried to charge me for a ham roll with 4 fillings when I only had 3? He tried to tell me that the pre-mixed tuna and sweetcorn was counted as meat plus one filling? I had tuna, lettuce, cheese and onion. They did not have tuna without the corn...!

I left everything at the till and walked out....t'was a few years back....was I wrong?

Count yisserselves lucky. the cheapest Cadbury's bar I've found over here is $1.80 (about €1.20) though it's usually about $2.

And for some reason a 2 litre bottle of coke is miles cheaper than a 600ml bottle (they don't do 500mls)

    Crazy.

There really should be some sort of link between After Hours and Joe Duffy so these outrages can be brought to the internetless masses !

What about washing it down with a bottle of Ribena? A 500ml bottle of this stuff can go from E1.oo (des's in stoneybatter) to a whopping E2.29 in a spar/centra place.

Anytime I buy a galaxy bar in my local spar, it always has arabic writing on the wrapper....i wonder is there some cheap supplier in the middle east that only my local spar knows about ?

lol... but how much are they?

I think €1+ for a regularly sized chocolate bar is a joke. I recommend €2 shop - 5 kitkat chunkys for €2. Ah yeah.

No, centra managers are not subject to price policies, they can charge whatever they want. And this makes perfect sense. If you have a shop in a prime location your overheads/rent/lease will be far higher. They are convenience stores, nobody forces people to buy from them, they pay extra for the convenience. Just based on supply & demand. Obviously there is the demand, so WTF would they charge less?

The OP bought it, and said he would not buy another. If the shop sees a fall off in sales then they might reduce prices to get the same overall profit again. High pricing leads to fewer customers, this leads to shorter queues, which in turn is attractive to potential customers. Many supermarkets have newsagents beside them or on the premises which sell stuff far more expensive. Time is money, some people value quick service. How much are you paid an hour? if you take 10mins browsing and queuing to get a bar 20C cheaper is it worth it?

...if you don't do anything about rising prices then your gonna get screwed more and more, that's why prices are out of control in Ireland, we're too nicey-nice to say otherwise.

cop on and stand up for yourselves, if it's too expensive then say it and don't just buy it and come on here telling us about it.
