New laptop - Dell Insipron 6400 but reasonably high spec. Provlem is as per title. I'm using software called 'Roxio Creator' that came with the laptop and I've sucessfully burned a disc only a few days ago. ( I tried WMP as well but got the same error). What could be the problem?

Does it detect regular music dc's or movie dvd's? Is the problem specific to blank cd's do you know?

It recognises audio CDs and I installed a game just the other day. I had a look there and the computer does recognise that there's a blank disc loaded but for some reason no CD buring software can detect it????????

Sounds like the software may need to be re-installed, try putting a blank cd in the drive ,right click on a couple of files or a folder and "Send to.." and select your cd drive. This uses windows inbuilt cd burning facility to burn files to a cd. I just want to see if you can successfully burn some files to a cd to rule out the drive itself.
