    Hi everyone,

I got a campbells dwarf hammy about 4 months ago, and since then her nails have grown really long. She has a sand box, a hanging food stick, a wheel, a bed that's like a pit so that she has to dig herself in every night, but her nails have managed to grow really long.

Just wondering is it safe to clip hamsters nails, and what impliment would you use to do it. Or maybe there's a safer way to shorten their nails.

Dwarf Campbells Russians do have very long nails as they mature and this is usually nothing to worry about. However, if a hamster is scratching itself during washing due to long nails or the nails are starting to curl underneath the feet then they will need treatment. Here's a usefull resource.

You can always line her wheel with a fine grand sand paper - & she will give herself a manicure as she exercises - but remove the sand paper once the nails are trimmed as you do not want to hurt her feet.
