Er, you think they'd be used to it by now.

Have to say the Glazers fairly know how to exploit the various cultural commercial possibilities:D
50m is a great start from the Indian Market! Wonder how much of that goes towards Benzema in the summer!:P

see des aint looking for a reaction. while shels are his number 1, he still follows united. if this was a scouser thread, i would say something. des is somewhat Controversial, he i not a troll.

I wonder how much of it will go to interest payments.

As an interesting aside, Erik Nevland looks set to join Fulham, bit of a blast from the past!

It's not just that, it's also a foot in the massive Indian market. India seems to have been left untouched by clubs expanding into the far east and it's something I've always found quite strange. Of course, football is lightyears behind cricket there in terms of popularity but with a population of nearly 1 billion, there's definitely room for more than 1 major sport. £50million is great but it's a drop in the ocean compared to the potential revenues to be gained from the Indian market.

I'm sure not all United fans are happy to see the "brand" (read club) becoming so commercialised but I for one am delighted to see United leading the field, both on the pitch and off it.

It's not the first time United have tried to move into the Indian market. I think they had a skills school in Kerala earlier this year. Brian McClair ran it. The problem is that off field activities could adversely affect onfield ones. Everyone is looking for the next (?) Indian player so they can make money off the merchandising. So an average Indian player could end up taking a place off someone else who actually can play ball. Similar to Dong with the Chinese market.

TBH I think that anyone trying to make money out of India and China has got major delusions. They'll have to deal with local pr companies that will tell them of course they want to wear your shirts* watch your matches** and pay you lots of money.
For me it's about on the field activities and then the others will follow.

*Unfortunately for the club they're all knockoffs (Or the vast majority of them).
** The pay tv figures from China aren't breaking any records. Basically the Chinese don't see why they should have to pay for something that they got for free up until this year.

Anderson didnt play 75% of international games and we got a work permit for him. If I remember rightly fergie personally attendeed the hearing to appeal as a "special" talent.

50 mill is sweet - better than orange's deal with chelski :D

Isnt it encouraging that we dont need too many reinforcements in the summer (besides the obvious) and will prob have the most money available to us than we have had ever?
TBH I think that anyone trying to make money out of India and China has got major delusions.

Try telling that to western companies like intel etc who have invested heavily in the chinese market due to 2 main reasons, an emerging economy and lower costs. Also the reasons below
For me it's about on the field activities and then the others will follow.
True but it's also about expanding the brand in the glazier's eyes and exposure to more people = more money

Free tv thing - i wouldnt want to pay either. Chinese ppl are making more money as the economy picks up pace. I think that's a good enough reason to go pay now, so in a few years people might decide to pay when they got more money - well that's my view on why someone high up probably decided that

I think Des has a point there. The united supports can't really be put out by what is just another of many commercial sponsorship deals that pay for new players/stadium upkeep/owners debts. It's been the way the club (and the way of others) over the past 10 - 20 years to sell the name of the club for everything it's worth. Like it or hate it it's bringing people/money into the game.

i am pretty confident he will break that record, i mean he has 25 goals in his last 23 games!! strike rate isnt too bad.......i reckon hes pretty sure to score 8 more goals between now and may! QUOTE]

and to think last year he got a meer 23 in 53. so far this season he has 25 in 26, so if he plays 53 games again and keeps the same ratio as he has so far that could make 51 goals??:D bet against it??

    Trolling?

    Ha, get a grip.

United have been a commercial entity since at least the early 90s when they floated on the Stock Exchange. For a fan to be complaining about commercialism fifteen years later is a bit rich tbh (I know no-one in this thread has been directly complaining).

Another thing, they are probably the very best at taking advantage of this commercial success in the football world (Real Madrid perhaps take that accolade, maybe). They have built an empire on the back of it ffs.

Troll? ffs, I wasn't even criticising your beloved.

I'm sure there must be an age limit to using the "special talent" arguement. Anderson was 19 and had other clubs looking at him but Manucho is 24 and if he really was a special talent he'd have been signed ages ago. I still think he'll get a WP though......

Fergie has ruled out Ronaldo scoring 30 league goals this season but expects him to break 30 in all comps but i wouldnt bet against him scoring 30 in the league... he's already scored 17 in 19 games so why cant he score 13 in the remaining 17?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

There's no way he can get in on the special talent rule, special talent really means like he has the potential to be world class, which everyone knows Manucho doesn't.

Quierez seemed to suggest that if he didn't play the right number of games in the African Cup he'd have to go on loan.

Yeah they have to get to the final I think. Not going bad so far.

    That's classic Ferguson...pure mind games. I'm certain that's a challenge to Ronaldo.

Off course it is, he also said that if he did score 30 league goals he could be in for a pay rise. He said it in a kind of joking way as to not put huge pressure on the lad, but still give him a target for the end of the season.

    Fergusons Comments regarding Manucho:
    manutd.com wrote:
Sir Alex Ferguson is confident that Manucho’s fine form in the African Cup of Nations will facilitate a successful work permit application for the striker.

The 24-year-old’s move to Old Trafford is pending approval, and his haul of three goals in Angola’s opening two tournament matches will no doubt aid his cause.

“It just adds to the fact that we’ll get the work permit easier, I’m sure of that,” said Sir Alex. “He’s got a talent, the boy, there’s no question about that. It’ll be interesting to see how he does in the rest of the tournament.”

With the work permit application still to be approved and Angola seemingly set to progress into the quarter-finals, Sir Alex admits it is unlikely that Manucho will feature for United this season.

“It’ll be too late, really, by the time we get him back and get a permit,” he said. “We’ll probably farm him out somewhere else for the remainder of the season.

Hodgson really hasn't got a clue has he? I can't see him keeping them up. He just keeps buying players that he has worked with before.

Ya. A tendancy that has never been displayed by a single successful manager before him.

Built an empire on the back of ridiculous debt clearance intervention by the Spanish Government more like. The period of the Galaticos could have and should have turned Madrid into what Leeds Utd are today. Without the government intervention who knows where they would be?

I would say its a load of crap. Considering their source is the Daily Mirror, and as the article states not the best time to be asking for it after he was skinned on numerous occasions by Lennon at the weekend.

P.S I didn't think Ronaldo had reached the £120,000-a-week club yet.

Erm, you see, the part inside the parenthesis was about Madrid.

The part outside was about ManYoo.

That's usually how it works, isn't it?

Thanks for reading my post properly before ranting at me though. Cheers.

i wasnt having a pop for that post specifically des, i dont think i need to quote all you little digs at united do i???

whatever,if its a misunderstanding fair enough, but all ive seen from you for the last few times you posted is negativity and concealed digs.....

btw evra looking for 120,000??? na, ronaldos not even on that yet!!! and unless patrice has been at the funny mushrooms then i think he would know that its pretty unlikely to understate it, i dont see ronaldo scoring 30 league goals this season, i think its almost impossible for him to continue his record of scoring so prolifically....its not taking anything away from him, i just wouldnt expect it...

i will point out that i didnt expect him to reach the form he had last year, but he seems to be proving me wrong on that one so maybe!!!:)

he will get tired toward the end of the season naturally cause he plays a hell of a lot of games! and if we going strong in all comps then i think he will be rested for some league games and that should stop him scoring so much there....

Okay now, usual stuff again... predictions and goings on for the Pompey game.
I reckon 2-0 United, Ronaldo goal :D, hope Scholes will be starting with either Anderson or Hargreaves beside him. Does anybody know if Vidic is back from the virus???

    on that Evra rumour...

Evra also said that he tells Ronaldo at training everyday that he is "going to break his legs if he tries that bull**** stepover" on him. Evra is a joker and he was obviously taking the piss. I love our Paddy i do.
