When i said i think it was because its been a while since i first applied, and wasnt 100% sure if there was a straight questions just asking for religion, if there was which i think i remember there was, then i answered roman catholic.

Hope you understand that and dont think i have made stuff up.

im so sick of BRANDO08's negativity. can we possibly have him banned from the forum

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 54 ✭✭mic

To my knowledge there was no question on the initial selection asking which religion you were, it goes by your primary school I think. It did ask you if you were of a nationalist or unionist perspective.

'im so sick of BRANDO08's negativity. can we possibly have him banned from the forum'

You'll have to deal with alot more negativity in the Police :)

Wrong, it does ask your religion on the initial selection.

Hi psni, just a quick question if you dont mind, are the shifts changing back to the old way off 4 on 4 off? Heard they might be.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 199 ✭✭MartinC2006

4 on 4 off would be excellent of it reverted back. Who did you hear this off Jim?

Brando is there really any need to be so combative? I agree Goodcopbadcop may not come across very well in some of his post’s but is there any need to attack him? He’s obviously excited at the possibility of joining the force so this alone has to be commended.
As I’m sure you’ve heard before, if you cannot think of anything nice to say stfu ;)

    Martin.

Hi martin! Was talking to a cop last night outside a bar but i was a bit drunk:D but i think thats what he said.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 199 ✭✭MartinC2006

    Haha,

Pinch of salt with that one then lol.

I was in town earlier and seen the mobile police station van. I think one of the officers thought I was strange as I was starring to see what gear he had!

    Martin.

Sorry to get your hopes up martin, but i can remember he definitely did say they were changing. So would be interesting to hear from psni on that one. Yeah always looking at them myself when i am out, just wishing it was me :D

Tsk tsk Jim out on the rampage an you supposed to be setting a good example lol, just kidding, hope all is going well.

By the way i think thats something alot of people forget, police officers are just people like every one of us.:)

Well maybe like all of you.

Brando08 is aware he needs to watch his posts from this point on.

On the shifts - nobody knows for sure. People speculate all the time in jobs and ours is no different. As soon as something concrete happens or is announced, I'll be only too happy to let you all know.

Sorry for only responding now to the answers you guys gave ref phoning for info on a medical date. Thanks for the response chaps.....

Think ill wait the 6+ weeks until the next batch of names are sent for. If i dont have any luck at that stage, then i'll give them a shout. Its apain in the butt waiting.
Ive passed the vetting before numerous times along with the medical, so hopefuly my health hasnt deteriorated lol
Does anyone know what the pass mark is for the hearing test. There is a chart that they use to mark your hearing. Sounds a daft question, but my hearing was a little low last time. So if anyone has any messages to send me, can they please speak up lol

Hello everyone, I have just joined your forum; was very happy to eventually find some information as I have been searching the papers for any statements being released to do with the recruitment. I have had my medical and vetting has been sent off since Nov, I know I have passed the assessment but thats it for the moment. I see some of you have phoned for your place in the merit pool, didn't even know you could do that, but I think I will just wait and see cos at the moment I'm still hopeful! This is my first time applying!! I'm female, does that make any difference or is it only catholic and non-catholic?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 96 ✭✭Ethan321

Lettho, the process of selection from the merit pool is 50:50 catholic/non catholic, there is also a certain number of women to be taken from the pool. Probably to be a cathloic female would be an advantage but there are alot of considerations taken into account, really until the year is out you cant really tell.

Does anyone out there know if its just merit poll placings that matter or does age bands etc come into play too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 222 ✭✭Wanalaugh

Yip, its just Catholic or non-catholic.
Its not a bad idea to phone ref you merit number. It will give you an idea if your getting in or not.
Duno if anyone else agrees, but it would be nice to get in based on best person for the job, not religion/sex etc.

Well done getting so far first time. You should definitely call and find out your pool number because recruitment are not the best at keeping people informed so you could be in for a long wait. Plus if your high in the pool you will know if your getting in.

Well heres a good one....Ive went to RC Primary and Grammer schools and lived in a predominantly RC community for 20 years, but im an ethnic minority so would i be placed in a RC 50:50 or the everyone else 50:50? And i filled in as RC in the initial application.

    Ricz,

You stated that you went to RC schools, however are you RC?? or would you class yourself as a different religion?

I beleive the current thinking is that ethnic minorities are classed as Non-RC, so recruitment is based on 50% RC & 50% Non RC..

Have you got you pool number yet?

AFAIK 44% of applicants this time were from an RC background, so I feel it is safe to assume that at a good proportion of the top 440 candidates will be RC.

I do feel that due to the reported number of RC applicants this time the 'advantage' of being RC is now somewhat diluted..I think everyone now has to try to achieve a high score in the AC to get to the winning post.

I believe 'Patton' is now coming to pass and the natural progression has resulted in recruitment becoming more 'merit based' than many may have believed a number of years ago.

    Agree/Disagree??

    Post replies please!

    Regards.

    Mickey2186.:)

I regard myself as an athiest mate i dont really believe in any religion. But my impression from the last few posts i read is that it is kind of based from your education and where you lived, which is what i thought as well. I also put myself down in the initial application as a RC for the same reason but i do suspect i wont be in the RC 50:50.

Oh i am 51X in the pool which means i have to depend people dropping out and stuff which is a bummer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 199 ✭✭MartinC2006

Ricz, I think you'll still be lumped in the RC group as it’s based on your schooling.

Mickey, I think the advantage is diluted but I feel it still exists for RC in this campaign for various reasons. There may have been 44% RC applicants but I think there is allot less than 44% in the top 440. Historically it’s been hard to get 110 RC candidates so 220 may be a struggle. I also have friends from the NON RC grouping who have had the Dear John letter even though they scored higher than my RC partner who hasn’t had a Dear John letter (as yet). These people also didn’t get vetted/medical whereas my partner has. This indicates to me she is at least in the wastage part but my friends didn’t get that far.

There’s also issue with people in the first intake from other campaign’s, are these RC people being used to beef up the numbers?

Good luck in your medical btw!

    Martin.

I forgot to mention that I had bumped into a guy a week ago who did his assessment the same day as me and told me that fellas he knows who did their medicals in December have been told in writing that they scored well but not high enough ie they aren't being considered!

Do you think they send the dear john letters out in bulk? I did my medical 10th Dec, so quite early on in the month; kinda hoping that no news is good news!

It seems a bit odd that they have already been rejected and some people haven't even had their medicals yet!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

i still havent got medical date, and have heard of people getting dear john letters, dont know if they were sent in bulk or not, hopefully they were. no news good news i guess.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 107 ✭✭mickey2186

    Lettho,

During one of my telephone conversations with recruitment, the nice lady told me that the merit pool results were only collated mid December onwards, so in theory people who may have already done their medicals in early December would have been put out of the running at that stage.

I would imagine any medical dates given out since the start of January will only be to those who are likely to be offered a position.

Therefore at this stage no news is good news!!!

    Goodcopbadcop...

Have you received your vetting forms from the PSNI yet?? or have you only received info from Consensia at this stage?

I know you have contacted them by phone and they said thay had no record of you!!... I may be worth a go writing to them to ask for further info.

    Mickey2186.

Heard nothing from psni yet lad, just consensia letter saying I passed assesment and one more from them saying that The psni would be in contact with me and their part in the recruitment was over.

Here's one for you, I have just been texting a friend who was in the reserves, he has suggested that they may use surnames to contact people, ie once they have decided merit placing they will then take people into training based on surname. I am not convinced though!

Hi mickey, 44% off applicants may have been from catholic background but i would disagree that it will not make much off a difference in the pool(or i am hoping :D) I knew off 6 other applicants all catholic and not one off them got past the inital test, they were all first timers. So i think catholics have a bit off catching up to do. Would anyone agree?
