Guitar Wall Hangers - Good Or Bad??

I have recently purchased guitar hangers and someone told me that they are generally bad for guitars, is this true, and why?

I don't know about their effect on the stability of the guitar but if you have a Gibson or another guitar with a nitro finish be very careful. The rubber/foam used on some of these hooks and stands can "melt" the nitrocellulose finish and damage it.

As mentioned, you need to make sure to use nitro-safe hangers (if your guitars have nitro finish). This is the case with any kind of stand that comes into contact with the guitars finish. Check the manufacturers website for details.

Structurally, there's no reason not to hang guitars by their neck. The force on the neck from the weight of the guitar will be many times smaller than the force caused by the tension of the strings.

Make sure the hanger is fixed safely and properly into the wall obviously

I've heard people worry over the stress it might cause on the neck but its nothing to worry about. I've never seen any damage to prove it anywhere.
If you are worried about the finish being tarnished then put a cloth over the rubber and it should protect it from any damage. Not too many companies use nitro so you'll probably be fine but it might be worth checking what you guitar is finished to be safe.
