    Hi Guys, new member and I hate asking the same question as ye've read a 1000 times but I still don't understand:o

    I've got a 1.1.1 version on vodafone and they gave me all the details for connection to vodafone live but I just cant figure out how to/where to input them.

    I keep getting VPN connection instead of apn.

    Could some one please supply me with a FOOLS guide to connecting, I'm practically computer/gadget illiterate so it needs to be baby steps:o;)

    Thanks in advance:D

    BTW do I need to have the edge settings turned off or on or what does that do *confused sniffles*

    vodafone told me that vodafone live wouldnt work with the iphone (bunch of idiots:mad:)...would be very interested in hearing about how it works:D

    As I see it, the best value most reliable solution at the moment is what Deal Extreme are offering.
    What I'm doing is waiting to see a confirmed report that the DX card works with 1.1.2 before purchasing, and I'll just buy one of those.
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10834

    I'm with cdebru on this one though, if you can I'd suggest waiting for a software unlock, or else waiting until one of the *sims looks like it will definitely work with 1.1.3.

    Yeah that is a good price from deal extreme i have got stuff from them before and never had a problem

    proves the point that prices are dropping on these I wonder if it works with 1.1.3 but at that price you could buy one now and buy an updated one for 1.1.3 when it is out and still be saving money on Stealthsim or even iphonesimfreer

    What settings did vodafone give you was it

    isp.vodafone.ie username vodafone password vodafone

    or live.vodafone.com username vodafone password vodafone

    The straight forward way is

    Settings then General then network then EDGE

    Enter isp.vodafone.ie in the APN and then vodafone in username and password

    To get live.vodafone.com working you need to use a PAC file.

    They told me to use live.vodafone.com for the 99c per day setup. in fairness they really had no idea and could only give me the info they use for other brands of phone.
    They gave me proxy server numbers and proxy port numbers too but again had no idea what to do with them.
    the username and password was "dublin"

    I use my wifi setup at home and it's fantastic. Ideally I'd like to be able to use my phone the same as business users user their laptops i.e anywhere, not just at a few hot spots around town.

    BTW what's a pac file????, see I told you, Idiots guide needed>

    BTW as I'm asking for advice, has anyone had to change the glass/lcd screen yet and if so where did they buy the replacement.

    my phone fell from my dining table to a wooden floor less than 3 feet below and the screen ended up with a series of cracks and splinters from the top left corner. I've put a sticky screen protector and some thick celotape on it temporarily which has led my missus to christen my phone "Jack Duckworths Iphone".

    Anyway any advice on swapping out the screen would be greatly appreciated:)

    there's a sticky at the top of this forum, i wouldn't update to the latest firmware (1.1.3) as there is currently no user-friendly jailbreak process released to the public and only a few *sim solutions work.

    There is an app in the installer called sendsong

    The song has to be in M4A format to work if you are using MP3 go to itunes click the song you want right click and in the menu select convert to apple lossless then sync the M4A version to your phone then use sendsong to add it to your ringtones

    nice one...also when i have my memory card from my old phone in the usb how do i get the contents onto my iphone

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,761 ✭✭✭cdebru

    Actually that version might work with MP3 now try it first

    And you will more than likely have to restart the phone before the phone will see the new ringtone

    If you have a Mac you can move a song from iTunes to Garage Band, select the 40 second bit you want and then "Send Ringtone to iTunes". Just tried it, works perfectly. You will need Garage Band 4.1.1 though (iLife '08).

    The best song I've found in my library for a ringtone is Aerodynamic by Daft Punk. You know the one that starts out with a church bell before going all electronic. Very unexpected ringtone.

    Yeah I have tried that myself works well unfortunately those of us with Macs are in the minority let alone those of us with macs and iLife08

    Re getting the iphone to work with Vodafone live I followed the instructions on this site -

    http://frustimation.blogspot.com/2007/12/get-airtel-live-working-on-your-iphone.html

    but I replaced the necessary info with the vodafone info.

    The proxy.pac file that I changed is here -

    http://homepage.mac.com/simon201/.Public/proxy.pac
    (right click to download etc)

    and the preferences file is here -

    http://homepage.mac.com/simon201/.Public/preferences.plist

    (remove the 'xml' bit of the name from both files before you install them on the iPhone - don't really know why it adds that)

    But before you put the preferences file in the location, copy the existing file to your PC just in case things go haywire. Take care when going to these locations cos a wrong move could brick the phone and then require some kind of restore.

    Then enter 'live.vodafone.com' in apn settings and 'dublin' and 'dublin' in the user and password boxes.

    I can access most websites now via vodafone live (ironically the Apple website doesn't seem to work) and mail doesn't work and I dont think Utube and maps etc work. These would probably work using the 'isp.vodafone' apn settings but dont go there it'll cost you €20 per MB!
    It's not all that fast obviously but it'll get you by if you cant find an open wifi network. There may be a situation where you want to disable those settings so you can just remove 'com' from the apn settings or something, or maybe use the 'services' app to turn edge off, but you have to re-enter the apn info when you turn it on.

    Only prob is I can't make calls... If I go to dial a number as soon as I press the first digit it goes back to the dashboard. Same with txt's... If I hit SMS it opens n straight away goes back to the dashboard. I can recieve txts but I can't read them.. It tells me I have 3 txts at the mo...

    I'm on meteor and back in Ireland at the mo... Anyone any suggestions?? Apart from above phone is working grand...

    Hi, I received my simfreer by fed ex last night. i dove straight in and cut the corner off - BUT im not sure which corner i shld'v cut off?? :eek:
    Was it the corner that already had the little bit off? U know, the bit that goes into the groove? U c with the iphone i wasn't sure which side the 'chip' should be facing.

    So basically, can someone tell me how to fit my sim in with the new sim? which do i put on top/bottom :eek:

    Also, the phone i bought in USA and it was out of the box with 1.1.2 which I managed (how, i hear u say!!) to jailbreak to 1.1.1. Do I now have to upgrade to 1.1.2? and do i do this AFTER i put both sims in??

    Sorry to be so :eek: !!

    Thanks

    I presume you cut the corner off your sim and not the simfreer sim?

    Should be cut like: http://www.adverts.ie/data/14/M63_5.jpg

    If you get 1.1.2 OOB, downgrade to 1.1.1, jailbreak 1.1.1, install oktoprep, update to 1.1.2 and then jailbreak 1.1.2

    As per sticky, newbie step by step guide is here:

    I have done similar after seeing http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6365

    my proxy.pac file was

    function FindProxyForURL(url, host)
    {
    if (isInNet(myIpAddress(), "10.0.0.0", "255.0.0.0"))
    return "PROXY 10.24.59.100:80";
    else
    return "DIRECT";
    }

    However it doesn't seem reliable, it that it would work initially, and then stop and i would have to restart the phone to get it to work again

    10.24.59.100:80 seems ok on my billpay SIM, and 10.24.59.100:9201 worked on a ready to go Vodafone SIM

    When it works, Safari, Weather, Stocks, Maps work

    Email to POP3 and IMAP doesn't work

    you have to cut the corner out that already has the edge cut out then if it has an adhesive side stick it on if not just use some sticky tape...if you look at the way the at+t sim came out thats the same way your new sim will go in....you will also have to update to 1.1.2 to use this sim i think....i dont think it will work otherwise ok let me know how you get on
