Stupid question just wondering if you leave the AT&T sim card or put in an irish sim card in the iPhone when down grading to 1.1.1 and when jail breaking the iPhone

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 145 ✭✭lkman

All done. My iphone is jailbroken on 1.1.2. Now to find out what this baby can do.. :D

I must say it was not all that hard to jailbreak, you just need to put in a bit of research before doing so. Thanks to everyone on this forum for the info you've provided.

I'm looking to buy a iphone in the next month, its obviously likely to have 1.1.3, how easy is this to downgrade back to 1.1.2 or 1.1.1 so I can jailbreak it and use stealthsim?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,658 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

Not easy at all as it cant be done. And 1.1.3 jailbreak wont be released for another good bit yet so cant use Stealth Sim either.

Your best bet (currently) is to go to the North and get one from an O2 shop, which at present is likely to be of the 1.1.2 OTB variety.

is it possible to go to an o2 shop up north and buy 1 without a contract like you can in the apple shops in the states?

    Hmmm

Just a tought obviously 1.1.3 otb is not out yet so we have no idea if it has a new bootloader but presuming it is 4.6
Might be possible to downgrade the phone to 1.1.1 jailbreak oktoprep update 1.1.2 and jailbreak the baseband would still be 04.03.13 but if the stealthsim or similar can work with that baseband then that might work.

IF 1.1.2 can work with 04.03.13 which it might not be able to. if maybe 1.0.2 might be able to work with that baseband just as 1.1.1 cannot work with 04.02.13 but 1.02 can.

Just an idea we wont know till 1.1.3 hits the shops

They'll only take credit or debit cards for payment (though they had no problem with my Southern CC - not sure if they'd take laser).

just jailbreaked phone only had one problem with the 1.1.1 side of things when downloaded the jailbreak from http://jailbreakme.com didn't work but restored and tried http://www.jailbreakme.com and it worked perfectly the first time

connecting the phone back to itunes till itunes recognises it after you fix the 1015 error sorts this problem out were jailbreak does not work.

Hmm.. so if I take a spin to Newry at the weekend I should be able to buy one and then what? Reading over this thread it seems rather complicated with jailbreaking, multiple software versions, stealthsims, turbosims etc. Could we get a sticky maybe with a step-by-step guide of what's required?

Also, are these UK/NI phones O2 branded as I'd rather a "clean" one?

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055220853

the O2 iphones have no branding on them afaik.

the process is simple if you have a 1.1.2 OTB (out of the box) iphone

    1. jailbreak it.
    2. install *sim solution (stealth sim / turbosim).

the link i gave you has links to guides on how to jailbreak and how to install/buy the *sim solutions.

i should be getting my stealthsim tomorrow, so i'll no doubt be posting back here on how it goes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,260 ✭✭✭swingking

If you take a wander down georges st and aungier st there are lots of phone unlocking shops selling x sims but you'll pay lots of money for one

www.Iphonesimfreer.com have a new version of the sim for the UK 1.1.2 otb iphones works out at €58
    including DHL delivery

    2 things to note

1 I have not used one only letting people know they are available
2 Iphonesimfreer have said their cards do not work with 1.1.3 ( so it is only an unlock for 1.1.2 )

My opinion is to hold off any of these cards that are only compatible with 1.1.2 should drop sharply in price once 1.1.3 hits the shops

Ok, I'll admit that I have been stealing ideas from the blog for a while now. Unlocked my OTB 1.1.2 ages ago (which sucked btw) and said to myself that I'm patient enough to wait for the software unlock but it turns out that I wasn' t and on the advice of another blogger (you know how you are) tried to get the iphonesimfreer option which two weeks later turned out to be a big fat waste of time, although the refund was pretty painless.

So, i'm back in the same situation where it looks like the software unlock is just around the corner (which it always does) and I'm still not very patient. So, long story short - where is everyone going for stealth sims / turbo sims / other that work and aren't a complete rip off. Also, is my grammer ok and do I over-use brackets?

If you are using iphonesimfreer you have to give them a contact number and an email address at the start also you must give them a postal code if you do not have one make one up.

If your phone is a US phone someone posted a link to a seller on Ebay for €13 including delivery a few pages back.

Yeah I did that for the iphonesimfreer but it didn't get me very far, pitty, it seemed promising, especially after your success with them. Also I was trying to avoid ebay for some reason, I'm usually quite the ebayer but the few cards / solutions that are up there look a little dodge to me but it looks like it have to be that then. Thanks for the help.

Hi Guys, new member and I hate asking the same question as ye've read a 1000 times but I still don't understand:o

I've got a 1.1.1 version on vodafone and they gave me all the details for connection to vodafone live but I just cant figure out how to/where to input them.

I keep getting VPN connection instead of apn.

Could some one please supply me with a FOOLS guide to connecting, I'm practically computer/gadget illiterate so it needs to be baby steps:o;)

    Thanks in advance:D

BTW do I need to have the edge settings turned off or on or what does that do *confused sniffles*

As I see it, the best value most reliable solution at the moment is what Deal Extreme are offering.
What I'm doing is waiting to see a confirmed report that the DX card works with 1.1.2 before purchasing, and I'll just buy one of those.
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10834

I'm with cdebru on this one though, if you can I'd suggest waiting for a software unlock, or else waiting until one of the *sims looks like it will definitely work with 1.1.3.

Btw that news about the jailbreak for 1.1.3 being held off a Crap and not true. It will be released when ready.Noone ever said 1.1.2 unlock is around the corner(which is always does) everyone knew we would need the secpack from 1.1.3 Free options take time. Also heard that the next sim have been working with 1.1.3 but that was with a single post poster so dunno how true it is.At the moment the only sim that works is the Stealth Sim but saying that its because we have access to test it unlike other users who cants and dont want to risk having a bricked phone.

Could be right there but we just dont know i guess, 1.1.3 should start hitting the shops soon though.
