Dell E520 .. Vista and a new graphics card

Have a Dell E520 with Core 2 Duo Intel 6300 @ 1.86Ghz and 3GB RAM and a standard PSU ( 305W ? )

I dont game and the integrated graphics card - 7300Le has been fine to date.I currently use Windows XP, but I'm going to upgrade to Vista Ultimate soon.

My question is what is the best card to get the best experience from Vista without ANY lag using aero etc. I use a 32" Dell Wide screen which goes to a maximum 1360 x 768 - which is fine.

I also don't want to have to connect an extra power connector to the graphics card or change the PSU.

It'll run Aero fine.No need to be upgrade

when I did a test install of Vista (which I have subsequently deleted) the vista experience meter was high except for the graphics which dragged the whole score down.

Will the mediocre perfomance of the card not affect vista perfomance (outside of games) at all ?

They are just trying to take my money.

Your computer will run Vista just fine.

If you do want to upgrade, then something like a HD2400pro/8400GS are fine....

Psu is fine, I had a 7950gt in a Vostro 200 (same psu as your inspirion)

put the second hand 7900GT in and it works fine .. buts it's very loud ! .. is the fan supposed to be heard all the time ?

That could be because its factory overclocked and using reference cooler probably, also its a much higher spec card than your older one so it should possibly make more noise, the 7900 will still run games decent and Aero brilliantly aswell
