were you told by someone on one of the dev teams?

My unerstanding is that geohot is on the iPhone dev-team and that there is another team called elite-team?

Reason I ask is cos there is a guy called zibree that seems to be on the elite-team that is saying its possibe.

    I understand if u can't say.

More and more I'm inclined to agree with this, and without sounding pessimistic I dont think it's going to happen. Ok I have a sim bought to use my iPhone so I'm slightly biased, but the way I see it is that Apple are increasingly being put under pressure by the official carriers to make it difficult or virtually impossible to software unlock the phone with every new firmware released (like who really is going to do that opening up the iPhone and connecting wires etc?).
I'm sure there's some dept in Apple that scour the internet like we all do looking at the comments and progress of unlocks and hacks and for every step taken by hackers and dev teams to unlock there's a reciprocal measure taken by Apple. I'd like to be wrong and I love Apple equipment, I've used it for ten years or so but I really think they should of just sold them completely unlocked cos this cat and mouse game is going to run and run. The unofficially activated phones bought will always be playing a kind of catch up game, but I fear that eventually there wont be any way of using an iPhone without signing up....

There has finally been an update on hackint0sh by a member of the dev team:
    http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24046

Probably in response to the above mentioned pessimistic blog post. Granted no date is mentioned, and there is nothing solid in the post - but it's an update none the less.

I'd be tempted by that Deal Extreme unlock solution, it says it'd ship in 3-5 days so I'd have by unlock by Friday if that's the case.

now for something completely different not sure if i should start seperate thread as not really an unlocking ques and thread is getting pretty big

How do i change bluetooth device name on iphone?

Originally when I paired my phone with my car kit it came up as "previous owners name" which was fine as i still had to jailbreak/upgrade phone so knew this would be deleted.

My car kit now shows the iPhone with the name "192.168.6.4" which is the IP the iPhone has in my network or today it shows up as "local host".

    1.1.2 US iPhone here, jailbroken/unlocked.

iTunes sees it as my iPhone!

Can someone tell me how I go about editing the phone's BT ID?

rename the iphone in itunes should fix it

click on iphone and press f2

    Thanks:) this worked

i.e changing name a few times in itunes by clicking on phone name and pressing F2

fingers crossed it will stay this way

next challenge getting voicemail to work original.gif

I agree with some of what your sayin, but apple need the iPhone to be unlocked as much as At&T, o2 etc. need it to be locked. El Stevo proudly announced that 4 million Phones were sold in 200 days, An impressive figure ill admit. How many of these do u think activated the sim that came wit them? Y not announce how many iPhone contracts have been activated? on ebay.com there are at least a couple of thousand phones for sale. Apple will always appear to be locking down on loopholes in the firmware, But they still need phones to be unlocked to drive up that golden number. And don't forget they still make money off every phone sold!

    Just my 2 cents!

The Thing with a 1.1.2 otb software unlock we will have to wait until 1.1.4 or whatever its called for a 1.1.3 unlock. But as i said last week and been confirmed there is a jailbreak method. And they are confident of a Software unlock despite what george has been saying these guys are working there boll**** off and it will pay off. I will keep everyone updated anyway.

    :)

Sorry mate, I don't see how waiting for 1.1.4 for a 1.1.3 unlock is related to a 1.1.2 unlock?

I do - he has a very valid point, that the unlocked iPhones will always remain a firmware version behind the current up to date version.
Now, for instance - once 1.1.2 is finally unlocked we will be left with a phone one version behind the current firmware (1.1.3), waiting for the current to be unlocked.
The current (1.1.3) won't be unlocked until the next firmware (1.1.4) is released - leaving us still behind a version.

Right, after re-reading PHD's post with a different head on, I understand - he's saying that even when there's an unlock for 1.1.2, we'll still be behind the game because legit Iphones will be running 1.1.3. He's referring to an aspiration to have 1.1.3. Got it. :o

    It was
The Thing with a 1.1.2 otb software unlock
that just didn't click with me. But it does now, thanks cianclarke.

BUT with 1.1.4(whatever its called) apple have all the time in the world to make 1.1.4 alot harder to do, alot of the reason why 1.1.2 will be unlocked sooner is because it was leaked and have had extra time to work on it. Not long but a good 2 weeks. We will always be behind Apple now with regards Software unlocks. When the 1.1.2 software gets released there will be a rush to buy the 1.1.2 which means the 1.1.3 stock will come sooner than we think.Saying that Some Hardware xsims work with 1.1.3 and there is a jailbreak method.

Any word on whether or not there will be a 1.1.3 update for people who are using 1.1.1 OTB. I've updated mine to 1.1.2 and I know I can downgrade again, but I like to be running the latest. Can cope without 3rd party apps to be honest.

Jailbreak is not released yet so not as of yet.

I have unlocked my iPhone sucessfully but I am having a problem ...

Every now and again the iPhone says "No Sim installed" . Is this to do with the way the Stealth Sim and the Sim are put together? Do I need a new Stealth sim or do I need to cut a bigger section of my Sim?

    Cheers in advance for help!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,658 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

Yeah it is the way they are aligned.

    Thanks

Okay ... how do I stop this happening every few days? Do i need to use double sided tape to keep the Sim and the Stealth Sim together or glue?

dont use glue anyway just make sure you align it properly it is cut properly and fit properly.
